We finally made it to Old Town, Antalya

Most visitors to Antalya probably make it to Old Town on their very first day in the city. We've been here for almost a month, and we finally made it there yesterday! But we know, we're not normal.

It's hard to believe we've spent a full month here. Of course most of that is because of our eye surgery, but it's also because there's a lot to see, and it's a nice city... as far as cities go.

And of course trying to see and do things in between curfews and rain days has taken up some time as well.

We are definitely feeling the itch to move on though. A month in one spot for us is too long.

Antalya's Old Town would normally be bustling with people. Visitors and locals alike, enjoying restaurant patios and exploring the cobbled streets. But it's pretty quiet now.

It rained hard in the morning, but after lunch the sun came out and we had some nice blue sky for a couple of hours. We took advantage of that to head to the old central area.

Typical apartments near the central area.

There are LOTS of cats around.
Most of them don't mind if you want to give them a pet.

Old town has lots of little alleyways, and not many cars are allowed in.

An old ruin made modern.

The clock tower is not really that old.
It dates to the mid 1800's.

Ruins overlooking the sea.

You can see by the last few pictures that some clouds were rolling in. Thunder was rumbling too. We had parked a couple of kms from Old Town and walked, so we really had to move fast to beat the rain! We just made it back to the car when a few drops started coming down, and we had some heavy rain driving back to the apartment.

January weather in this area has been pretty much as we expected. Highs of around 19C (66F) and rain on a fairly regular basis. We leave here on Sunday and go back to Fethiye, and then fly to Tanzania on Tuesday. Looks like we are leaving at the right time. The forecast is calling for a cold front to come in with highs of 10C (50F) and lows of 3C (38F). Even today is supposed to be cooler with a high of 15C (60F), but that's still good hiking weather so we are heading out to get some exercise.
