Beautiful views in all directions

Before we get into our beautiful hike yesterday, we need to tell you some good news!

I had mentioned a few days ago that Ruth's laptop wouldn't start up. Other than hearing the fan run, there was no screen, no nothing. She's been trying to start it up every couple of days just in the hopes that something might happen, but with no luck.

Until yesterday morning.

She pressed the on button, and the screen actually came on. Ruth was very excited! Without any prompting it said something like "diagnosing your computer" and it sat and thought about it for a minute, then it said "attempting a repair", or something to that effect. After it had gone through doing the repair, it came back saying that they it removed a corrupt update. How it does all of this automatically, I have no idea. But that's why the computer people make the big bucks!

Long story short, the laptop appears to be working again.

So that is very good news.

On Saturday, we set out to do a hike up to a viewpoint where there are a lot of antenna towers. We have been on many of the main paths in this area, but managed to find a new route that was really scenic.

The temperature has been warming up, and they were calling for a high of 29C (84F) so we made an effort to get an early start and managed to get out of the house just after 9:30am!

We are headed up to those antenna towers.

It was one of the clearest days we've had.

Made it to the top!

There were clear views in all directions!

Heading back home.

Really gorgeous hike. We are sure going to miss the beautiful scenery and friendly people in this area.

We had done 14 kms (8.7 miles).

Back at the house, Ruth sat outside while I got caught up on some computer stuff. There are these big black birds flying around and some of them have an odd shaped beak...

Silvery-cheeked hornbill.

This one is the male, and other one above one is the female.

Today is our last full day here in Lushoto. Tomorrow (Monday) morning we take the local bus down to the coastal city of Tanga. I will probably post our February expense report before we leave, but otherwise you won't hear from us again until we get to Tanga!

Almost a record low deal on the popular Fairywill Sonic Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush.

And in Canada...

  1. I feel sorry for the people that live near those towers. There is a lot of radiation from them!

    1. Yep, it was another wonderful hike! We are definitely going to miss the hiking here because we know it won't be as nice or hiking by the ocean and it will also be a lot hotter.

  3. Ugly but interesting birds! Really glad to hear about Ruth's laptop. Shows that it pays to keep trying even when you think it's a gonner. I managed to "fix" my last laptop in Mexico, which kept crashing, well enough using the Microsoft repair tools that are built into Windows 10. It took a couple of days of fiddling with things and researching online on our other laptop, but boy was I happy to get it done. It still wasn't 100% great from that point and would occasionally crash for an unknown reason (turns out the motherboard was slowly dying), but I got another six months out of it, which is what I needed before I could get another one in the US.

    1. Not as ugly as a vulture, lol! Their casque, the raised hard bit on their beak and head is very interesting to see. I wish I could have got a better picture of one of them.

Like your computer, it is working again but it still isn't 100% either. Fingers crossed it will last a little longer, at least until we can get somewhere where it can be diagnosed and hopefully repaired correctly. Right now, I am just happy to be able to use it.
