I guess it just doesn't bother most people

Saturday's forecast was for overcast and scattered showers. That's supposed to be the way it is through to Monday now. But then clearing and warming up through the week.

It's so nice having an unlimited supply of internet. So we spent yesterday morning researching where we want to go from here. There's a lot we want to see in this area, and the area north of here, but those parts of the country are going to be better in a couple of weeks time, so we are going to head south and stay away from the mountains until mid April when the hiking will be better there.

After lunch, we found a route to go for a walk where we could get a view overlooking the city. We ended up doing about 5.5 kms (3.3 miles) and it never did rain on us.

Starting to get a view.

Another bunker.

Looking back at the city.

Another bunker.
That is some kind of military installation on the right.

Communicating with the aliens?

Enjoying the view.

Tirana, Albania.

We came across some goats and sheep.

Mom, with some little ones.

We came back down to the residential area that is all apartment buildings. There's a big open field in front of them, and it's littered with trash. It doesn't show up so much in the photos, but it was pretty bad. It wasn't really a park so much... just a green space. But the amount of garbage strewn across the field was unreal. Yes, downtown is nice and clean, but the outskirts not so much. At least there's not graffiti everywhere like we see in so many other places.

We don't understand why the local citizens who actually live in these apartments don't clean it up themselves. I guess it just doesn't bother most people. But you would think it would bother one or two of them enough to go out and pick some of it up themselves. But I guess it just doesn't.

New apartments going up.

Our local fruit and veggie place.

We stopped in to pick up a few things on our way back home.

We enjoyed a fun video call with friends Chris and Juan in Mexico. Ruth made a delicious pizza for dinner. There isn't anything much better than beer and pizza! Or red wine and pizza in Ruth's case.

Raining as I write this on Sunday morning. We'll make it out at some point today, but in the meantime I have to book where we are going to our next stop when we leave here on Wednesday.

And in Canada...

  1. Glad you are still getting out to explore.
Years ago Ontario used to ticket people for littering and things really improved. Now it looks like that field you saw. Like you said some don't care.

    It's about time.

    1. We are happy to be out exploring, even in this local area there are things to see, not touristy things just local life which we find very interesting.

We laugh when we see these signs with fines for littering, we have never met or heard of anyone getting a fine! It is such a shame that people feel that they can just chuck any old thing out on the ground and walk away. In this day and age it shouldn't be happening. :-(

    1. We have said the same thing, it is just worse in some countries compared to others!

  3. How very nice for you to communicate with Chris and Juan in México! The good internet connection must have facilitated that! The views of Tirana against the backdrop of the mountains is really pretty and does look similar to Vancouver’s...just smaller in scale. Stay safe.

    1. It is so nice to have stable and unlimited WiFi for a change! :-)

We can't wait to see some of these views with a nice blue sky, it will look even better then.

  4. Yep, that was fun! About the trash, the world is literally drowning in trash and plastics. Imagine all the trash thrown on the ground, washed out to see from major catastrophes such as the Japanese tsunami, mass production of oil and consumer products. It will never go away, not even in 100 years.

    1. It was fun, it was good to see you both and talk with you two. We can't wait so long before doing that again. :-)

You are totally right, it will never go away, not even in 100 years! It is very sad the way we treat our planet. :-(

  5. When I toured Soweto in South Africa which is the black city outside Johannesburg I was amazed at how clean it was. Our tour guide told us that the locals do not tolerate litter. It was refreshing.

If those bunkers were here in Maui they would all be homes for the homeless.

    1. That is nice to hear! I wish more people felt the same way. As we have said before, most city's downtown core area is kept very clean but as you get further from the city center the more you tend to see the garbage showing up.

One of the bunkers that we looked into on this walk was so filthy and filled with garbage that even a homeless people wouldn't want to live in it. :-(

  6. You 2 can find the darn-est things, including a garage area! In Oregon, where we are from, they used to have a sign saying you could get a 1000 dollar fine for littering! Now it's a 100.00.
I don't know why I got on the subject, bababa! Take care, Rawn Stone

    1. Yep, even on a walk around the local area, we still find interesting things to see.

We aren't even sure why they bother putting up signs in the first place saying that you will be fined for littering, whether it is $100 or $1,000, if they don't enforce it people will still do it! :-(

    2. You are right on with littering, they have to enforce it!
