But something has happened with one of the anchor teeth. It's not causing me any pain, but I know there is something not right. So I contacted our host here at the Airbnb to see if he could recommend someone here in Berat to have a look at it.
And sure enough, he quickly got back to me with the number of a dentist who speaks perfect English and I now have an appointment at 11:30am this morning.
I've read that dentists in Albania are still fairly priced compared to the U.S. or Canada. Or compared to most of the Europe and the UK for that matter. I'm not expecting it to be as inexpensive as our regular dentist in Mexico, but it should be reasonable.
Yesterday, we went for a walk in the hills behind Berat on the other side of the castle.
Looking back at the castle wall.
Berat, from a different angle.
Another beautiful day.
We are headed up to that antenna tower that you can see if you click on the photo to make it full screen.
The road we walked up.
Still a beautiful day, but things are definitely a bit hazier.
Enjoying the views.
Interesting landscape.
Freshly planted olive trees.
And very old olive trees.
We ended up on this very old road that takes us back to the castle gates.
Another bunker.
This one is not in very good condition.
Sheep!
We wondered just how old this road is.
The road ended up at the castle gates, and then it was a 10 minute walk downhill to get back to our cottage.
We had done 11.6 kms (7.2 miles). We realized about 3/4 of the way through that it hadn't even occurred to either of us to stop for a rest!
It's another beautiful day today, but I am off to the dentist appointment at 11:30am so we don't have anything else planned. We want to drive up into the mountains, so maybe if there is time after lunch we may go do that. Or we may leave it until Tuesday.
You may have noticed that we still don't know where we are going next. That's because of the dental situation. It all depends on the outcome of today's appointment. If necessary, there is nothing stopping us from staying here in Berat for another week or more if we have to. We will find out today.

And in Canada...
Have you been trying the olives ?
ReplyDeleteKelly
Yes, we have had some olives several times while we have been in Albania so far. Olives aren't our favourite so we don't normally go out and buy them but if they are served at a restaurant then we will eat them.
DeleteIt looks like you stepped back in time.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your dental appointment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Sometimes it feels like we have. We think that there are certain areas in the countryside that have changed very little over the number of decades.
DeleteI was fortunate recently to have a 13 yr old bridge also done in Mexico, gently? removed & re-cemented.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be holding so far.
Hope your’s is an easy repair also.
Love “being” with you guys on all your journeys!
Unfortunately Kevin's issue isn't such an easy repair! :-( More on that in our next blog post. So glad though that yours was and that it is still holding up.
DeleteWe are happy to hear that you are enjoying our travels and adventures. :-)
Hope your appointment go's well, take care, Rawn Stone
ReplyDeleteThank you Rawn!
DeleteLike your other reader said..” a step back in time”..... lovely countryside! Good luck at the dentist Kevin!
ReplyDeleteThe countryside definitely keeps it's old world charm here in many ways. We are pretty sure that many things haven't changed much in 50 or more years when you really get out into the countryside itself away from the towns.
