We are up early this Monday morning because our taxi guy is picking us up at 7:00am!
On Sunday, we walked into town to what we thought was where we could buy tickets for today's bus ride. But it turns out that sometime in the last four months that particular bus company moved, and I could not find any current information online. But, we asked some questions and found that we had to head another kilometer to a different bus line.
Here's some pics of the walk...
Some kind of big market.
We found the bus from Tanga to Dar es Salaam on 16th St.. We are using bus line Nacharo Royal. The bus leaves at 8:00am, but it leaves from the main depot which is located outside of town. But if you arrive at the booking office at 7:15am, they take you out to the main depot where you catch the bus.
The price was 16,000 shillings ($8.75 CAD, $6.90 USD) per person for the 347 km (215 mile) journey. And it's scheduled to take six and a half hours.
We walked down to the place we had had a good meal at a few nights ago, but it wasn't open yet. Instead, we found a buffet style Swahili restaurant that was fairly busy with locals.
Big plate of food for 5,000 shillings ($2.70 CAD, $2.15 USD).
We called our taxi guy to take us back home, and also arranged for him to pick us up this morning.
Relaxed for the rest of the afternoon, and watched the monkeys play in our backyard...

So you are probably ahead of schedule? Hope you 2 get were you need to go! Take care, Rawn Stone
ReplyDeleteNope we weren't ahead of schedule at all, we are right on schedule actually! :-)
DeleteIs that you Ruth, hanging outside a very scary height?
DeleteNope, that wasn't me but hopefully sometime this summer that will be me! :-)
DeleteAlways nice to scope out places you need to be ahead of time.
ReplyDeleteSafe Travels and Enjoy your trip.
It's about time.
It is nice to scope things out ahead of time for sure but we were also told to book our tickets a day in advance because the bus can fill up quickly and the next bus was at 12:30pm which would have been too late in the day for us.
DeleteI feel for you guys!
ReplyDeleteOff to another city, to hang out and get tested.
If one of you were to come down with covid after your tests, are you stuck there and if so, what happens with your visas’s for that country?
I am assuming you are saying this in a sarcastic way! ;-)
DeleteNot really looking forward to going into a big hot, dusty and busy city, especially for six days but it is necessary.
Yes, if one or both of us should test positive then we would not be allowed on the plane and we would have to either cancel the flight or rebook it in two weeks time. We would have no problem with our Visa here, we are good here for three months and we have only been here just less than two months. Our flight can be canceled or rebooked right up to the last minute with no extra charge or penalty other than the difference in price when booking a new flight.
