Hiking in the snow!

This is the second post of the day. You may have missed our May Expenses post earlier on.

On Monday, we drove a short distance up to a trail that leads to a castle ruins. We had already been told that there isn't much left of the castle, so we knew not to expect too much. We also had already been told that "they" (whoever they are) are building a five star hotel up there.

We parked the car, and began walking up a fairly new road. We could not have driven up because there is still too much snow on it, and they will need to do a lot of cleanup of broken branches etcetera before anything can drive up there.

The road we drove up on.

Lots of hiking trails.

Funny creatures.
This is the only wildlife we saw!

Still lots of snow on the ground.

But it's weird to see that much snow with leaves on the trees.

I took another video for you... turn up your volume...

It's going to take a few years to build this hotel. Seems like construction season might only last three or four months! Besides clearing the road just to access the site, they have to repair the electrical lines that were damaged during the winter.

The snow might be gone by the end of June. Maybe.

Ruth, and the hotel foundation.

This will be the view from the hotel.

Scenery surrounding the hotel.

We sat and had some lunch up there, but it was a bit chilly, especially when the sun went behind the clouds. And while the trail appeared to be well marked, we couldn't follow it because of the snow! So we only ended up doing about 4 kms (2.5 miles), but at least it was a bit of an uphill climb so we got some exercise. And once again, the scenery was stunning.

Back where we parked the car.

But we hadn't slept well the previous two nights. While the two dogs at the "resort" are friendly, they make too much noise at night. We actually ended up complaining, and last night was quiet as can be. Anyhow, we went back to the apartment and I had an afternoon nap.

Today is starting off looking quite nice though, and Ruth is making us another pack lunch. We are off to do some hiking on the opposite side of the valley.

And in Canada...

  1. Didn’t notice what it cost to repair or replace the tire on the car in your budget or did the rental company pick up the cost?

    1. We don't know yet. We will get the tire replaced on Wednesday, so you will know the details in Thursday's blog post and it will be included in June's expenses if necessary.
