An interesting turn of events

We notice that some of the trees are starting to change color, and there are a few more leaves each day falling onto our back patio where we are staying. Winter is on its way.

But, it was still a beautiful day yesterday. So, taking advantage of that, we headed out for another bike ride to get some more sunshine, fresh air, and exercise.

So we headed north towards the airport on the rail trail. But then it just stopped!

I guess this is as far as we go!

A new part of Ottawa's multi gazillion dollar light rail transit system is being built and it goes right through where the trail was. Not sure what the long term plan is... hopefully the trail will end up running beside it once it is complete. but for now, that's as far as we can go.

But, we still had a nice ride...

Just enough to get the heart pumping.

So, we heard back from the people we showed Ruth's dad's property to on Sunday afternoon. They are definitely interested, and wanted to see it again along with her father. So we agreed to meet them up there yesterday around 6:00pm.

Just after we agreed to the time, I had a phone call from another interested party. He wanted to see it yesterday evening as well, and he wanted to come at 7:00pm. We were driving up there anyhow, so that worked out fine.

Around 6:15pm as we were standing in front of the house with the first people, another vehicle showed up. This woman and her sister were out looking at another house, and had seen our For Sale sign when they had driven by. They stopped just on the off chance that they could have a look as well. I said they were welcome to go ahead and have a look around on their own, and we could answer any questions later.

Well, just after 7:00 the guy showed up. Now there were three parties all looking at the house at the same time! It was actually kind of funny. We did our best between the two of us to spend enough time with each of them, and by the end of it all three parties are interested in further follow up. Two of the parties are from Toronto area where real estate is probably 40% more expensive than Ottawa. So this house looks downright cheap compared to what they are used to.

One of the parties texted us late last night saying they are serious enough to take the next steps to arrange financing and inspections, and would we please let them know if we get any other offers in the meantime. The single guy is having his girlfriend contact us separately to arrange another showing with her, but when he was going through the house he kept saying "oh, she's going to love this" several times.

So, this is an interesting turn of events!

We are fairly confident that one of these three parties is going to end up with this house. We can't wait to be able to put this whole headache behind us, and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  1. Where we live in MI all parties have a designated time all bids need to be in. Then you choose best offer with best financing and no contingency on sale of their home . It's a tuff world out there. Tell them àll offers due Thursday noon. Then choose. Good luck.

    1. That is more or less what we had in mind but one guy that came so see it by himself wants his girlfriend to see it but she can't make it until Friday so we would probably want any bids on the table by the middle of next week. It makes things a little more difficult with us being away Sunday to Tuesday with the grandchildren in Toronto.

  2. Ive heard that in BC it is the same, multiple interested parties make a formal offer by a certain date then a " winner" is chosen. Our house sold on the first day in AB so we didnt have to choose because the offer was what we wanted.

    1. Yes, and this is what Kevin had in mind as well, it just makes things a little more difficult with us being gone for a few days as I mentioned in my reply to the comment above.

Glad to hear the the sale of your house was so quick and that you got what you wanted. :-)

  3. That's great! It definitely sounds like you will make the sale to one of these folks. I agree with the others who say to set a date/time for offers to be in and then, if there is more than one, you get to pick the best one.

  4. Wow, it looks like when good luck rains it pours just as much as the bad kind! Best thing is that they *all* saw there's so much demand for the house that two other interested parties showed up when they did. Hopefully that means they'll make offers competitive with other buyers rather than the seller (you!).

    1. This is what we were thinking too. I don't think too much will happen on it at the moment though. That one guy that was there by himself wants his girlfriend to see it but she can't make it until Friday and then we are gone Sunday to Tuesday so I am sure something will happen on it by mid week next week. There was definitely lots of interest. :-)

    1. It is the same up here in Canada!

Yes, we are really hoping things can be settled before we head off to Europe if not we will hand it over to my brother and a real estate agent.

    1. It certainly seems to be, hopefully we aren't jinking ourselves, lol! Honestly though, we really are happy with the way things are moving along.

  7. Bonus having them all there together. Bit of competition might push the price up.

    1. Not only was it good to have them together to show that there is interest in the house but it also saved us another drive up to the house! :-)
