Getting ready to head out

Only two more sleeps. We're busy getting ready to head out on Thursday late morning.

We're not traveling as light this time around. The bikes are all boxed up and ready to go. And besides our normal carry on bags, this time we're actually bringing a larger suitcase with us as well that we will just ditch after we've emptied it upon arrival.

One of the main items we're bringing in the larger bag is our silk filled duvet. We used this duvet while we traveled in Sherman, and we like it so much we're bringing it with us to use in Max. Silk filled duvets are a little more expensive, but we found it to be worth the extra money. They are better because they regulate your body temperature in all kinds of weather. Keeps you cooler in summer and warmer in winter usually without the need for any extra blankets. We love it.

Yesterday, I purchased our travel and medical insurance through HeyMondo. If you click through that link, you will save 5% just for being a Travel with Kevin and Ruth reader. Heymondo is the best insurance I could find for the price, except that it's only good up to age 69. They have a plan called HeyMondo Long Stay for people traveling more than three months and it even covers you in the expensive countries like USA. Yes, covers for Covid as well.

We are paying €173 ($255 CAD, $202 USD) per month for the two of us for the first three months. After that, the price reduces each month that you continue to extend the policy up to one year. It actually gets quite a lot cheaper for the next nine months after the first three.

We don't expect to be back in Canada until next August, although it is possible we will return in the spring depending on what we decide with regards to getting a residence permit somewhere in Europe. Depending on the country we choose, we might have to return to Canada in order to do the application.

Also yesterday, we drove up to Ruth's dad's house in Galetta, likely for the last time ever. We met a real estate lady up there who was recommended to us by our daughter. I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to sell it privately and I'm still a little confused as to why not. We did receive one offer, but we didn't think it was high enough. So now we will hand it off to this lady, and let her handle it. Although I'm disappointed, I'm also glad that the whole thing is out of our hair.

While I was gone over the weekend, Ruth spent a lot of time with our granddaughter Sadie...

She's such a pleasure to have around.

Today, we are meeting a friend for lunch, and then going to visit my Mom one last time before we leave.

And in Canada...

  4. We tried to sell out house privately a few years ago. The RE agents didn't want to show their clients our house.

Some agents wanted us to pay them a commission if their clients end up buying the house

Not sure if that's what happened in your case?

    1. Yes, that could partly be the problem but I think the biggest issue that we had was that we were able to advertise it enough to get a bigger audience, whereas the real estate agents have a huge network. I guess we will see how things go now that we will have a real estate agent selling the house.
