Yesterday was a rain day! I only got outside twice... once during a 15 minute dry spell so that I could empty our toilet tank, and once so that I could take a few rainbow photos.
Otherwise, it was a computer day and we got quite a lot accomplished. And we heard back from the dentist again and Ruth has an appointment at 11:00am this morning to have the molds and scans taken for the invisible braces for her lower teeth.
And, Thursday was the closing date for the sale of Ruth's father's house. We heard that everything went smoothly, and so that whole headache is now behind us! Big thanks to Ruth's brother Colin for looking after all the details.
And so, with Ruth's dental stuff, and the water filter that we are waiting to arrive from Germany we will be stuck here in Berat for what could be another week. We're not really stuck as such... we could easily go off and do some day trips and even some nearby overnight trips so long as we return here when we need to. And of course we like the area to begin with and we are at a nice, reasonably priced camp spot.
Max, with a rainbow view.
But the weather forecast is not great. Yes, it's starting to cool off which we expected, but we don't mind that so much... it's the rain. And it's supposed to rain quite a lot over the next four days. And it's not like we can drive somewhere to avoid it. The storms are coming right through Greece as well.
I was also looking at what route we might take when we leave here. If we enter Greece after December 4th, we can stay under the Schengen visa rules for more than a month. The temperatures during December aren't that bad. Typically highs of 15C to 17C (60F to 65F) and lows around 10C (50F). Not exactly tropical, but not too cold either. Good hiking weather provided it doesn't rain!
Then we head into Turkey sometime in January. It will be colder going up around Alexandroupoli, but we'll just have to do some miles and get through it quickly. In normal times, we would take a ferry from Greece to Turkey, but they closed earlier in Covid, and have not reopened due to politics.
Quite a few miles, but it will be over a two month period.
Once we get on Turkey's south coast, the weather will be decent.
We'd like to do some more exploring east of Antalya towards the Syria border. But we're only allowed three months in Turkey, so we'll just have to see how things are going.
And, today is a special day... a big one... Ruth's 60th birthday! Happy Birthday Ruth!
