A beautiful day in Marmaris, Turkiye

We woke up to blue sky and sunshine, and it stayed with us all day. Even better, it looks like it's going to be a beautiful weekend as well, and right through into Monday.

We drove into Marmaris for a few reasons. We needed to do laundry, and there is one here that gets great reviews, and it has a big grocery store that is likely to have our gluten free bread. Also, because we had been here in November of 2020,  we knew that it has a nice waterfront walkway that goes for 5 kms (3 miles) in each direction. Great for people watching, and enjoying the nice weather.

At 9:00am Friday morning...

Max, in his overnight spot.

Only a short drive into Marmaris, and we had done this drive a couple of times when we stayed in this area in 2020 so we knew what to expect.

Heading back through the resort town of Akyaka.

Akyaka.

Akyaka is known for the hotels and homes made with a lot of wood.

Scenery along the way.

Super cheap oranges, right off the tree.

View of Marmaris.

Staying on the main roads in Marmaris is okay for a motorhome, but we wouldn't venture onto any of the side roads. Very tight and narrow with lots of one way streets, and difficult to find parking, even for a car. So we knew to park at the marina.

There are three different parking areas around the marina. One at the marina itself that costs 50 lira per night, one that is designed for smaller vehicles and costs 65 lira per night, and one that is easy for motorhomes that costs 35 lira per night. The only problem with the easy and cheap one is that it's in the parking lot of a small, permanent amusement park.

But, for 35 lira ($3.30 CAD, $2.60 USD) per night, plus the convenient location to just about everything including the laundry place, we can put up with a bit of noise from the amusement park.

Gorgeous day.

Lots of big beautiful boats in the marina.

We went and spoke to the laundry place. We wanted to get bedding and sweaters done along with the normal laundry, but they said it was too late in the day to get everything back to us same day. But they said if we dropped it off at 9:00am today (Saturday morning), they would have it ready for 4:00pm. So that's fine, we're quite happy to stay two nights.

When we had been here with friends Volkan and Heather, they had introduced us to a nice restaurant in the central area, so we returned there for lunch yesterday.

Lots of food!

I had the veal kabob with a side salad, and Ruth had soup and a large salad. I had a half liter beer, and Ruth had a glass of wine (her first one for 2022!). Including tip, the bill came to 217 lira ($20.50 CAD, $16.00 USD, €14) for the two of us.

Ruth, and her first glass fo wine for 2022!
Does the glass look a little large? It's really not... just the perspective of the photo.

Marmaris has a 5 km (3 mile) beachfront walkway.

Marmaris beach.

Still too cold for swimming through!

Lots of people out enjoying the day.

Kids playing at the park.

Marmaris waterfront.

Boats.

Expensive boats.

Octopus statue.

And yes, we woke up to blue sky and sunshine again today. Forecast high of 16C (62F) today, and 17C (64F) tomorrow. Beautiful.

Nice price drop on the popular Mr. Buddy Propane Heater.

And in Canada...

    1. It is a really pretty spot at this time of year but it honestly must be a zoo here in the summertime!

  3. something that we notice in your pictures and travels is how clean and manicured the landscape is.... is this the norm in Europe?

    1. It all depends on where you are. We noticed that Germany, The Netherlands, Austria and Slovenia were for sure very clean and manicured. The further east you go, you see more garbage and graffiti. Generally if you are in a town or city it will be cleaner in the center of town but as you move out of the center that is when you see move garbage and graffiti. The resort areas are also in general very clean and tidy.

  4. Hi there! We just moved to Alanya Turkey 3 days ago after living in La Bocana, BCS, Mexico for 16 years. Will your wanderings bring you to our neck of the woods? It would be so fun to meet you. Blanca and Les

    1. Hello Blanca and Les, we are hoping that you are enjoying your new home in Alanya, we are sure that you are finding it a little different to Baja, Mexico.

We are definitely planning on heading that way, just not sure when we will get there though. It would be very nice to meet up with you. You can contact us through Kevin's email at [email protected] when we get a little closer. :-)
