Another Senior Nomads lunch, and my new hiking boots arrived!

We drove over to Vera and Bob's apartment and found a parking spot really close by. They offered to let us use their washing machine and so we did some laundry and had nice hot showers!

Then when we the laundry was hung up to dry, we walked over to the same restaurant where we had lunch with the other Senior Nomads group last Tuesday.

It's always great meeting other full time travelers. So much to talk about with like minded people.

This time, along with Bob and Vera, there was Shawn and Neil from Nanaimo, Canada and Linda and Sel from Australia.

Neil, Shawn, Vera, Sel, Linda, Bob, Ruth, Kevin.

Again, lots of travel stories and not really enough time to spend with each other.

Then we all walked back to Max and showed him off to them. Sel and Linda are also traveling by motorhome, although they currently have theirs stored in Bulgaria having just returned from Egypt. Neil and Shawn also have a North American motorhome back in Canada, so they were interested as well.

Some of them are headed to Cyprus next week, so we may see them again there. Who knows!

I called the hiking boots guy. He said "they are in shipping... maybe Monday". Well I had enough. I had ordered them Tuesday evening, and he had said 2-3 days. Monday would make it six days, and even then there was no guarantee. We went through this with the water filter I had ordered from Germany to Albania, and it never did arrive. So we have learned our lesson. Fortunately this time I hadn't paid any money yet so we were just going to move on.

Later on, we drove 20 minutes or so to the eastern part of Antalya just so that we could get an early start out of the city on Sunday morning.

But around 5:30pm, I got a phone call. I wouldn't normally even answer it because nobody has our Turkish number. Except, I had called the hiking boot guy earlier, so he would have my number. I answered the phone.

My hiking boots had arrived!

We were only 9 kms (of busy city driving) away and he said he closed at 7:00pm. So we packed up and drove over there.

My fancy new hiking boots.

They are an Italian brand from a company called Mondeox. Total cost including taxes was 1,380 lira ($127 CAD, $100 USD) so I'm happy with the price. They are lightweight, and waterproof with a decent Vibram sole. Only time will tell, but hopefully I get more than a year out of them!

By the time we got out of there, the sun was setting and it was getting dark. I don't enjoy driving after dark, so we ended up going back to the same big parking lot overlooking the sea.

There were a lot of cars there on a Saturday night, but by the time we woke up in the morning we were the only ones around.

Max, parked by himself on Sunday morning.

Today, we are finally headed further east!

  1. Oh, I am so glad your boots arrived and hope they fit as you hoped -- ordering shoes without trying on is always a bit of a crapshoot, but sometimes one gets lucky.

    1. Kevin is so happy that they arrived too, we had pretty much given up on them. He was pretty sure that they would fit, they had the size below and above his size and when he tried each of them on he found them very comfortable just either too tight or too loose. He did try them on before leaving the shop though, if they weren't comfortable he wouldn't have bought them.
