Made it to Fethiye

Woke up to a gorgeous blue sky and sunshine and the forecast says it's going to be the same thing for the next week or more. Finally. It seems like ever since we left Germany at the beginning of October we've been constantly searching for nice weather.

It's still not tropical by any means, but with highs of 17C to 19C over the next week, it's not bad when the sun is beating down on you.

As soon as the sun took the chill off, we went for a walk.

Oranges and snow covered mountain tops.

Ruth saying hello to a friendly dog.

A bunch of sheep came running through!

This bay is part of the Mediterranean Sea.

Ruth, at Karaot Beach.

Friends Glen and Steve had put us in touch with a couple they knew who are in Calis Beach, just north of Fethiye. Aly and Martin are from England and own a part time home here in Fethiye, and they invited us to stop in and visit for a while.

They live on a wide quiet street, and it was easy for Max to find a suitable parking spot right out front.

So we sat and met with them for a while and got introduced. They invited us to use the shower and laundry... they are also van campers and understand the needs of people traveling on the road!

We got to know each other for a while, and then went for a walk with them down to Calis Beach.

Calis Beach.

Fethiye has a large British expat population. And not only full time expats, but a lot of "snowbirds" like Aly and Martin who are here to escape the British winter.

In fact, I read that out of the 160,000 population of the area, there are approximately 10,000 British people and many of them are in the Calis Beach area.

The four of us went out for dinner, so it was no surprise in this area to see a lot of English on the menus.

The menu where we went.

All four of us had the lamb casserole.

Unfortunately, it was just okay. We all thought the lamb was a little tough, and the beer and wine were a bit overpriced. Not bad, but not great. Total for the two of us was 253 lira ($23.75 CAD, $18.75 USD).

Looks like we're going to hang around a few days. We are located just a short distance from the nice cycling path that runs along the Fethiye/Calis waterfront, so we're off for a bike ride this morning!

Here's a map of our route so far in Turkiye...

  1. Great watching you guys. Just a comment from yesterday, I
hope you have a plan B for when the time comes when you cannot travel anymore. I know several people caught short with no place to stay when Covid hit. Just saying.

    1. We are happy to hear that you enjoy following along on our adventures.

Nope, we really don't have a plan B, at least not at the moment. If something happens and we have to find somewhere to settle down that we will find a way to make it work, just like those people that were caught short with Covid, they all ended up finding something to work for them.

  2. Enjoy your time in the warmth. With hot weather come crowds of people so you are probably there at a good time.

    1. An this is exactly why we are down by the coast at the moment, the weather is warmer and there aren't too many people around. When things get hot you will find us up in the mountains. :-)
