One of the best things about living on the road

Tuesday was quite the change from the beautiful day we had on Monday. Tuesday was a stormy day. Overcast, showers, and a really strong wind. We just stayed put in the parking lot of the municipal beach at Sarıgerme. 

Fortunately, it was only a one day event and we were back to sunshine and blue skies on Wednesday.

And, it's supposed to be gorgeous for the next week! Sunshine and highs around 17C (63F). We're quite happy with that!

On Tuesday, we did manage to get out for a good walk in between the showers.

Unfortunately, we left on a bit of a sour note.

We had been parked at the municipal parking lot at Sarigerme Beach. Some of the reviews had mentioned a 60 lira fee per night, but those reviews had been during the summer. And yes, the park does offer camping, and that is the price. There were three other rigs parked near a bathroom building and plugged into the bathrooms electrical outlets.  We were parked far away, and not using any services.

When we arrived Sunday around noon, there was nobody in the entrance booth, the gate was open, and none of the vehicles were being charged. And that's the way it was the entire time we were there.

On Tuesday evening around 8:00 pm, we had a knock on the door. It was a guy dressed in the official municipal uniform, saying that this was our third night, and we needed to pay. He was very friendly, and complimenting Max... but he said it was 60 lira per night. His English wasn't very good, but he was very proficient at using Google Translate! 

I wasn't complaining about the price. It's like $5.50 CAD a night, no big deal. But I explained that if there was to be a cost involved, we should have been told about it the beginning of the first night, not the third night. Plus, there would have been absolutely nothing stopping us from driving away anytime that day and not being charged at all.

He agreed with me, and said that he would offer one night free. I paid the 120 lira ($11.25 CAD, $8.75 USD) just to avoid further argument, but it left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths. There were lots of places we could have parked for free. I wouldn't be surprised if he put it right in his pocket. Oh well.

At least on Wednesday morning, I didn't feel bad about emptying Max's toilet tank in the washroom building. I've become very good at it, and don't leave a mess at all. But I figured at least that way I got some value for our money.

We headed about an hour south to Katranci Beach. Friends Glen and Steve had stayed here and said it was a decent spot, and it was.

Today, we are headed into the big city of Fethiye (pop 163,000).We spent quite a lot of time in Fethiye  when we were here in late 2020, so we know the area quite well.
