We have decided we are not going to Cyprus on this trip

We are now only 60 kms (37 miles) from the ferry port that would have taken us to North Cyprus. So we needed to make a decision.

We weighed the pros and cons. If we went to North Cyprus, the only real benefit would be that we would be able to extend the spring season so that our remaining time in Turkiye would be warmer.

And of course, we would be able to see North Cyprus.

But there are too many downsides to the plan. It's been difficult to find accurate information, but we don't think we would be allowed to take the motorhome into South Cyprus, due to the problem of North Cyprus not being recognized. And North Cyprus isn't that large of an area and a month might be too long. Of course the ferry is not cheap (about $600 CAD return) and we would need extra insurance for Max that we do not yet know the cost of. And, that extra month in Cyprus would cut into our time heading back to Germany in the spring.

Plus, our friends Katja and Yves are well east of us now, and they say there is simply too much more to see in Turkiye without needing the added expense of going to Cyprus.

We would like to be in Norway for sometime in June. So as it stands, without going to Cyprus, we would cross from Turkiye into Bulgaria around April 20th. That would give us just under two months to make our way to Norway by mid June. The route between Bulgaria and Germany is yet to be decided, but May weather ought to be beautiful by then.

And, of course with the disclaimer that all of this depends on what is going on in the world at the time. We remain totally flexible, and are willing to go or stay where ever we need to.

Yesterday, we did a fairly short, but scenic, drive to Incekum Beach near the town of Aydıncık.

There is a castle on that hill, but there isn't much remaining besides the walls.

Once again, lots of greenhouses.

But we notice that the mix is changing. Still some bananas inside, but we are noticing more and more with strawberries. It will soon be the season for cheap strawberries!

We need to drive over that moutain.

They are building a tunnel through the mountain, but it's not open yet.

Tunnel construction.

Beautiful coastal scenery.

Near the end, they had a section of tunnel open.

When we came out the other side, there had been a big forest fire last year.

This morning, we are going to nearby cave that has an underground lake! Then, further east. No plans on where we will end up tonight.

And in Canada...

    1. It is quite pretty and very interesting along the coast but today we headed inland and this is where we think it is beautiful. Too bad it is so much cooler/colder inland at this time of year otherwise, we would be spending more time here instead of the coast.

  2. That's a bummer, it would've been nice to see you here again. But that's how the nomad life is, constant changing plans. 😊

Hopefully we'll see you again sometime down the road!

    1. It would have been great to meet up with both again too. With this nomad life you never know, our paths may just cross once again. Until then we look forward to seeing where you are and what you are up to via the Senior Nomads group and your videos.

  3. I am enjoying your travels no matter where you go. The temperature where you are has no effect on the temperature on this side of the computer so we do not feel the coolness. The scenery is still beautiful no matter where you go. Safe travels.

    1. Thank you Lorne, we are glad to hear that you are enjoying our travels. And you are right, the scenery seems to be beautiful no matter where we go and there are always new things to see along the way.

We really wish we were having your temperatures here. We are up in the mountains right now and the temperature outside was just below the freezing point. Frost on the ground this morning. We love it here in the mountains but it is just too chilly to spend any length of time here, looks like we will be back down on the coast later today.

  4. These 90 day limits do keep us moving and it does sound like there are too many obstacles n the way for you to reach Cyprus.

    1. They sure do but we would love to have the limit be closer to between 4 to 6 months rather than 3!

We will head to Cyprus another time, there are so many places to visit and just not enough time. :-)
