Not a bad month. Considering we started the month in Turkiye near the Syria border, and ended up in Craiova, Romania I think we did okay.
Plus, we splurged a couple of times!
We spent a total of $2,013 CAD ($1,566 USD, €1,485) for the month. Here's how it all broke down...
(Note, the following figures are all in $CAD)
Diesel Fuel: As you are all no doubt aware, the price of fuel is up everywhere, and it's no different in Turkiye, Bulgaria, or Romania. We spent a total of $464 on fuel in April, and we drove about 2,100 kms.
Our approximate route during the month of April.
Toll Roads: We paid out $28 in toll fees for roads in Bulgaria and Romania.
Propane LPG: We spent $20 on propane, which has also gone up in price. Fortunately our usage has gone down as the temperature has warmed up, and we ended the month still more than half full.
Groceries: Considering we ate out more than normal, we spent more than we thought we would have in this category at $378 CAD. But we found that groceries were more expensive in the northern part of Turkiye, and certainly more expensive than we expected in Bulgaria. Romania seems to be a bit cheaper.
Meals out: Well, we blew the budget in this category. Mostly related to the one high end restaurant we went to in Istanbul. But, we had a blast and it was a lot of fun. We spent a total of $225 on meals out, which we rarely ever do!
Alcohol: We also went a little over budget on alcohol, which is expensive in Turkiye. And when we got to Bulgaria and Romania where it's cheap... we drank more! We spent $166 on booze for the month.
Medical: We spent $170 on our travel medical insurance with Heymondo.
Miscellaneous: Not bad, at $132. About $30 on cellular data access which is inexpensive in all three countries. Laundry, a new pair of sunglasses for Ruth, a speeding ticket for Max, and a spare fitted sheet for his mattress.
Entertainment: We spent $77, mostly related to our ski trip at the beginning of the month. The rest was visiting castles, caves, and hiking.
Overnight: We spent $76 on 9 nights of overnight expenses. Four of those were simply for parking in a secure area in Istanbul while we stayed with our friend Cheryl in her apartment.
Motorhome: We decided to replace the bathroom vent in Max with an upgraded model. Cost was $277.
So besides the one expensive night out, and the bathroom vent replacement, it really wasn't a bad month. We've got a budget of about $1,700 CAD ($1,323 USD, €1,485) for the month of May as we make our way from Romania to the northern tip of Denmark.
