We're actually headed to our next stop which is the popular Turkish tourist area of Cappadocia. But along our route is the big ski resort at Ercİyes Mountain.
Turkiye is one of the cheapest places in the world to go skiing. And the mountain has spring conditions available right up until the end of April. So we figured, let's go skiing!
We did a fairly long drive yesterday...
Yesterday's drive.
Lots of mountain scenery...
I hope he's carrying a load of styrofoam!
We stopped and filled Max's fuel tank with diesel. The price is dropping a bit and we paid 21.39 lira per liter. That's about $1.82 CAD per liter or about $5.50 USD per gallon. We had previously seen prices as high as 23.85 lira per liter.
Nice road, no traffic.
And great scenery.
You can see quite a lot of snow still up in the mountains, but it was quite a warm day. Even at the higher altitudes. We were over 1,800 meters, (6,000') at one point and the temperature was still 17C (63F) so it was quite a nice day!
Coming down into the city of Kayseri I was watching the temperature climb on the dash. We stopped at a Migros to do some grocery shopping and by that time it was 24C (75F) outside.
We haven't felt those kind of temperatures since last September!
Coming down into the city of Kayseri.
It's warm and hazy.
From the city, you can see the 12,800' Mt. Erciyes.
We drove to a point about half way between the city and the mountain and found a municipal park for the night...
Max, with a view of the Mt. Ersiyes in the background.
We're going skiing here today!!
We got up early this morning and drove to the parking lot at the ski resort. We have to rent some equipment, and hit the slopes! Should be a great day with temperatures on the runs at about 9C (48F).

Nice price drop on the Samsung Tab A8
And in Canada...
You guys never cease to amaze me! Have fun skiing!
ReplyDeleteWe are full of surprises! Normally we aren't in a country where you can go skiing during ski season because we are always looking for warmer weather. Luckily they have great spring skiing at this location and fantastic prices, so how could we turn down that opportunity?! :-)
DeleteReally looking forward to your next post on how the skiing was!!!
ReplyDeleteKevin is working on it as I type this, so you won't have to wait long. :-)
DeleteThat's the last thing I'd expected you to do.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Especially here in Turkiye, who would have thought that there was spring skiing in Turkiye. :-)
DeleteSo nice to get your posts again after 2-3 yrs of nothing. Looking forward to hearing about skiing 💙💛
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a bit of catching up to do. We have done and seen a lot in those last 2-3 years.
DeleteKevin is working on that post now. :-)
Hmmm your skiing reminds me of a video of black birds using a bottle cap to ski/slide down a slope roof top. They're so cute.
ReplyDeleteOk, that sounds a bit odd!
