Out for lunch and a nice hike

They kept saying it was going to rain, and it looked like it was going to rain, but we got lucky and it never did.

We took Valentina out for lunch and even sat outside on the patio. Afterwards, we went for a hike in the hills in behind Valentina's house. Some great photos!

We went to the Pension Retezat Restaurant...

Nice blue sky, and we sat on the patio.

Ruth had the roast duck.

And I had the chorizo pasta.

Valentina had a bowl of tripe soup... no photo, because it looked like a bowl of soup! It was good, and we were stuffed. With one beer, and one lemonade, the bill was 115 lei ($31.75 CAD, $24.95 USD) including tip.

Then with full stomachs it was off for a hike...

Into the forest.

There were lots of dark clouds around, but it never did rain.

Valentina and Ruth.

Mountains in the distance.

The town reservoir.

Dark clouds, but no rain.

We did about 8 kms (5 miles) with lots of uphill and downhill.

Back at the house, Ruth visited with some new kittens...

Only about two weeks old.

Me, with Valentina's cat Terry passed out on my lap.
Terry is a lap cat and doesn't hesitate to make himself right at home as soon as you sit down.

Looks like a nice start to the day today so we are getting the bikes off and doing a ride/hike to a waterfall.

    1. The scenery here is beautiful and we are really enjoying our time in this area. Our meals were delicious and inexpensive, which we love because soon we won't be going out for meals because they will more expensive, especially in Norway.

  2. A while ago I watched an episode of a Mexican cooking show and she made something called Menudo. I thought to myself, "I've never heard Kevin and Ruth mention that." Then I learned what's in it (tripe) and then I understood (lol).

    1. Yes, menudo is a very popular soup in Mexico, especially on Sundays. We have tried it before when a Mexican friend gave us a taste of theirs, and no we didn't care for it. Menudo is probably one of the only Mexican foods that we don't like, lol! Valentina's bowl of soup looked quite different from the Mexican version though.
