Vietnamese breakfast in Romania

We are heading out today. We were actually planning on tomorrow, but Gabi told us about a canyon we need to visit that it sort of along our route and he was going to take us, but something else came up. So we will head out today in Max, see the canyon, and perhaps spend the night up there before heading up to the Hungary border tomorrow.

We've had a great time here though! I wanted to tell you more about Gabi and Ha. Gabi is an avid budget traveler like ourselves, so we have a lot in common in that regard.

A few years ago he learned that he loved Vietnam. Beautiful beaches, delicious street food, and ridiculously inexpensive to travel there. He met a Vietnamese girl named Ha and they got married. Ha is a microbiologist who studied English in university. She is also a painter. She is also adventurous and moved to Romania with Gabi!

She made us a typical Vietnamese breakfast yesterday morning...

Rice noodles and veggies with sweet and sour hot sauce for breakfast!
It was delicious.

Gabi and Ha.

One of Ha's paintings.

And another.

She sells her paintings on Etsy... you can have a look at more of them here... https://www.etsy.com/shop/Hagallery

They had a baby last month... I forgot to get a photo of little Oliver! With these two as parents, he certainly has an interesting life to look forward to!

We had a bit of a relax day yesterday. Cleaned up Max a little bit, and had an afternoon nap!

In the evening, Gabi took us to the local Kaufmann grocery store around 9pm. Why so late? Because they put a lot of stuff on sale in the last hour or two each day. Some amazing deals. Deal of the day for us was a 12 pack of half liter bottles of the Romanian beer that I like at 25% off! For 20 lei ($5.40 CAD, $4.15 USD). Yes, for a 12 pack! Cheapest beer ever, and this is nice beer!

We also splurged on a nice bottle of Moldovan wine. It sells for over $25 in Canada, but it is only $9 here! We needed a nice bottle of wine to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary today!

Ruth and her dog Tina, 38 years ago today!

So, this morning we will say goodbye, but we will be back to Romania another time for sure.

Looks like another beautiful day!

  4. Happy anniversary, happy travels and happy everything. We move to Tirana tomorrow for a month. After our month in Vlore, we think Fethiye will suit as better than a return to Antalya for the autumn. As you see, we are narrowing the choices. Its def good to hear roosters crowing, and have plenty of fruit trees around.

    1. Thank you for the anniversary wishes, we had a wonderful and adventure filled day.

I hope that you enjoy Tirana, it is a pretty city in the central part and they have a beautiful park and lake. Also if you can, you should take the cable car up the mountain in behind the city, the view are wonderful from up there.

I think you are due for a change from Antalya and Fethiye would suit you both nicely. :-)

Breakfast was delicious. it is nice to now that that you don't ever have to have a "normal" breakfast to have a nice breakfast. We stopped eating boxed cereals, ages ago and prefer eggs or oatmeal with fruit, nuts and yogurt.

Ha is a beautiful artist, we liked her paintings. She is definitely very talented for sure.
