Based on the past three weeks, a blue sky day doesn't happen very often in Norway! We woke up and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. And it lasted like that pretty much all day. Wonderful.
We went and did some more grocery shopping before doing the short drive to the tiny fjord port of Gudvangen.
And what a beautiful drive it was.

Meh... it's just another waterfall. They're a dime a dozen in Norway!

This is not the best photo, but I post it to show the typical waterfalls that we see all the time.
Notice the one at the top in the distance.
We arrived at Gudvangen at just after 11:00am and were surprised to be able to get a prime free overnight spot. But that seems to be about the right time when other motorhomes will have already moved on, and new ones haven't arrived yet. I forgot to get a photo of Max!
But we had a view similar to this!
There is a ferry port here, and it's popular. In fact, this fjord and the one next to it that leads to the cruise ship port of Flam are two of the most popular in Norway. We could have put Max on a fjord ferry... but it would have cost 1,329 kr ($175 CAD, $135 USD) for the two and a half hour ride.
Instead, in typical Kevin and Ruth fashion, we decided to do the 10 km (6.2 mile) round trip hike along the side of the fjord to the remote village of Bakka.
Up until the year 2001, this was the main road to Bakka.
They have since built a tunnel.

Almost at Bakka.
The village of Bakka was only accessible by boat until a rough road was built in the 1970's. But the road was dangerous, with a lot of rock slides and avalanches occurring regularly. A new tunnel opened in 2005, so now a good portion of the old road is used for hiking and biking during the summer.

Unfortunately the blue sky and sunshine was a one day event and we have reverted back to overcast and showers forecast for the rest of the week. Oh well, we enjoyed it while we could!
