Parking, or camping?

While looking for possible overnight spots, we often come across warning signs at the entrance to whatever parking area we're considering overnighting at.

Here in Europe, they are quite distinct about the differences between parking and camping. This is especially true in the country of Spain, but also here in Norway.

So, when we see a sign like this...

...at the entrance to a parking lot, we know that we are still okay to park there. What you are not allowed to do is to put out chairs, or do any outdoor cooking or put your awning out. These things would be considered camping, not simply parking.

And we can even stay overnight at these kinds of places... provided we are not doing anything that looks like camping. The difference would be in areas where they also have signs telling you there is no parking overnight. Something like this...

For example, this sign says that you are okay to park between the hours of 7am and midnight, but for no more than three hours. And, you cannot park at any other time.

Where there is no sign at all, it means there are no restrictions at all and we even see people camping in tents at areas we would not think to be tent friendly. But if there is no sign, it's pretty much up to you.

Anyhow, we stayed at one of those "No Camping" areas last night. These types of parking areas are often not very busy with other motorhomes because many of them see the "No Camping" sign with a picture of a motorhome crossed out and simply assume they can't park overnight.

It turned out to be very quiet and we spent part of the day, and all night there with only two or three other vans.

But it rained much of the day. We did manage to get out for a walk, but we took our umbrellas.

There is a beach right out front of our parking area.

Looking out to sea.

Another view.

Hm. What is that thing sticking up?

A strange howling dog statue.

Scenery along the way.

I bet you can't guess what this is...?!

What the heck is this??

It's a restaurant. In fact, it's the world's largest underwater restaurant. And it's a Michelin rated restaurant that is ridiculously expensive. You can check out their interesting website here... under.no

The restaurant is simply called Under. And you will dine 5.5 meters (18 feet) below sea level.

They only have one set menu, and it's a surprise. It's all based on seafood though. It will cost you 2,450 kr ($318 CAD, $247 USD) for dinner. Much more if you want wine, or even juice with dinner.

Just a rainy day.

This pretty house is for sale.

We played lots of yahtzee, backgammon, and cribbage yesterday!

And it looks like today will be the same. Pouring rain as I write this.

  1. Oooh, I love the house that's for sale! Too large for our needs, but charming. I can't believe you passed on the underwater restaurant (joking)...haha!

    1. I agree with you, that is a sweet looking house that was for sale but way too big for our needs too!

There is no way in heck that we could ever justify those prices!

  2. Unusual concept to have an underwater restaurant. Not the sort of thing I would like, I need to see tres and sky. Enjoy your last days in Norway. Cheers

    1. We think it would be neat eating in a restaurant that is underwater like that but there is no way that we would ever pay those prices for a meal. The price of a meal for the two of us plus drinks would be the same amount or more that we spent on our expenses for a whole month in Turkiye!
