The fog lifted, and we had a great hike to Cape Split

Our daughter Lindsey and her friend Tina arrived about 9pm on Wednesday night. At 16 hours, a long drive for them from Ottawa but they both said they felt it went by fairly quickly.

Tina is only staying two nights then she is flying back to Ottawa Friday afternoon. She really only came to keep Lindsey company on the drive. But she still wanted to see some of the area, so we decided to go do the popular Cape Split Trail.

We had done this trail with Lindsey and family back in 2011 when grandson Cameron was only a baby and Lindsey had carried him the whole way. 

This time, Justin had some work to do at his father's place so he didn't come, but Tina, Lindsey, Cameron, Sadie, Ruth, and I set off on the 13.2 km hike.

They made some big changes to the trail in 2021 and installed some viewpoints along the way, as well as another trail along the Scott's Bay side of the peninsula so now you can do it as a loop hike which we like much better.

There are lots of different types of mushrooms along the way.

The temperature was perfect for hiking, at about 19C (66F). But it was really damp and foggy which of course meant that there wasn't much to see at the lookouts. But, it made for other interesting things to see.

Such as the spider webs covered in dew.

While we were at the lookout having a snack, a couple came up and peered over the edge. They said "oh, there's some kind of animal down there", so of course we all went running over to have a look.

This young porcupine was having a snack too.

He was just minding his own business, munching on some leaves.

We got to the end, and it was still foggy so unfortunately we didn't have much of a view. I took a few photos and then we sat down and had some lunch...

By the time we finished lunch, it was clearing up!

This is why it's called Cape Split.

It turned into a beautiful afternoon and we had a good hike. The kids were really good considering we did over 13 kms (8 miles).

Then we went to Justin's fathers for a BBQ. It was a long day and everybody slept well last night!
