This kept the grandkids busy for a few hours

Ruth and I took the grandkids for the day to give Lindsey and Justin some free time to get the house set up the way they want. We packed a lunch at set off to the Ross Farm Museum.

This was our third visit to Ross Farm. We first came here in May 2011 when we were here for grandson Cameron's birth. That visit was just Ruth and I with our dog Whiskey when we had our motorhome Sherman

Then the second time was in April 2015 when we were looking after Cameron and Sadie for a week while their parents went to Cuba for a wedding. But Cameron and Sadie were pretty young back then, so they didn't remember much.

This time though, they were at the right age to enjoy the farm even more.

The last time we were here, they were building a new welcome center...

Cameron, headed to the pig barn.

That's a big pig!

Sadie, learning how they made cloth material from flax.

We went for a wagon ride.

And, we had invited another couple to join us. We met Dayna and Devon in Mexico in 2019 while we were there leading one of our RV Caravan groups. They ended up moving to Nova Scotia and living on the south shore close to Halifax. Now, they have a little one as well, two year old Casie.

Cameron, learning how to make butter.

They milk the cows here, and use the cream to make butter. Unfortunately, it's all for show and the finished product is fed to the pigs. Canada's pasteurization regulations mean that they aren't allowed to sell or even give away the nice raw butter. Such a waste.

The finished product.

The original farmhouse was built in 1816 and was lived in until 1969.

The cooper (barrel maker) has been busy.

Lots of fun at the Ross Farm Museum, and it was easy to keep the kids busy for a few hours!

In the evening, Justin and Lindsey invited some friends over and we had a campfire...

Nice evening for a campfire!

Today, we are going to a birthday party! Sadie's 9th birthday is officially tomorrow, but they're having a party today at her other grandmother's place.

  2. Great place for kids and city adults too! Amazing how many younger people don't know anything about where their food actually comes from. Rudbeckia Golden glow..a favorite fall flower. Enjoy😊

    1. It is a nice place and they really know their stuff there. I like the fact that they also have some younger people there that they are training to learn how to take over for the older folk so that they can keep the traditions alive. You are right, there is a lot of people who don't know where our food comes from or how much work is involved, especially so long ago, when modern machinery wasn't used.

Thanks for the name of the flower, it saves me having to look it up, I definitely didn't know the name of it.

  3. I had the pleasure of meeting Devon in June, as he works with the same company that I now work for (as of April this year!). We giggled about the fact that we both follow you guys and what a small world this truly is!!!

    1. We were waiting for you to comment on our meeting up with Devon. He had told us the story of the two of you meeting at your company get together. That is pretty crazy how that can happen! It really is a small world at times. :-)
