I had bought our bus tickets back in mid July. Very often there are some good discounts involved when you buy that far in advance, and that was definitely the case this time. We paid only £7.14 ($10.75 CAD, $8.15 USD) each for the four and a half hour ride with Megabus. And that included £2 each extra for reserved seating so that we were guaranteed to sit together.
Departure time was 11:00am from Victoria Coach Station in downtown London. We left Auntie Nice's house just after 9:30am and that gave us lots of time to get to the bus using train and underground.
The bus left about five minutes late, and only just over half full. There was no need to buy the reserved seating, but we wanted to sit together, and we had no way of knowing how full the bus would be.
London is such a huge city that it takes over an hour just to get to the outskirts.
196 miles (315 kms) from London to Leeds.
London side street.
Not often you see an old museum tractor outside of a museum!
Yes, we passed by Nottingham and Robin Hood country.
Scenery along the way.
More scenery.
Arrived in Leeds.
We arrived at about 3:45pm and had a twenty minute walk to our accommodation. We're staying at the Russell Scott Backpackers Hostel. Cheapest accommodation in the area, at £32 ($48 CAD, $36.50 USD) per night. We have a comfortable private room with a double bed, and shared bathroom and kitchen facilities.
Certainly acceptable for the price.
There are three different grocery stores within easy walking distance, so we went and bought some food. We ended up with two microwave chicken curry meals at £3 each ($4.50 CAD, $3.40 USD) each which seemed pretty cheap. And a couple of cans of beer, and a bottle of wine!
Dinner!
And it was fine, especially for the price.
Slept okay, and we have woken up to a chilly, although bright and sunny day. Forecast high of 14C (57F).
