The cliffs on England's Jurassic Coast

England's Jurassic Coast is a 95 mile (153 km) stretch of cliffs on the south western coast of England. It is so named because of the number of fossils and rock formations that date from the Jurassic period around 150 million years ago.

There are a lot of walking trails in the area, in fact you can walk the entire 95 miles if you wish, staying at accommodation in villages along the way.

We've been in this area before, but we had never been to the section at the village of West Bay. So yesterday morning we packed a lunch and did the one hour drive down to the seaside.

The harbour at West Bay.

We walked out the pier to have a look in both directions...

Interesting coastline looking west.

And looking east.

We decided we would head east along the shore, then come back on the pathway at the top of the cliffs.

You can see some people on top of the cliff.

We will come back up there.

Me!

The cliffs are unstable and there are lots of rock slides.

Ruth and Helen.

Looking east.

This is where we stopped to have lunch.

Horrible looking holiday homes.

On top of the cliffs is a golf course!

Scenery along the way.

The golf course looks interesting.

I wouldn't get too close to the edge!

Back at West Bay.

And interesting statue.

And a sharp looking Ferrari in the car park.

We didn't see much in the way of sun yesterday, and there was a brisk wind but we still had a nice day. Today is looking a little better so far and we can see some sunshine and blue sky out there. We are probably going to head over to Sherborne Castle.

  1. This looks like the scenes from the series "Broadchurch".(on PBS). I bet this is where it was filmed.

  2. I googled it and this is the town where the series was filmed, including the trailers by the sea.

    1. Now we are going to have to try and watch it. We like to watch shows or movies of places that we have been or are going to go too. :-)

  3. Horrible looking holiday homes. Requires some thinking about it, doesn't it.

    1. They certainly don't appeal to us! They are all squished in together, they all look the same and there aren't any trees around but obviously there are people who like this type of thing, so good for them.
