Back in Albania

We left Prizren at about 10:00am and made our way through the maze of inner city one way streets. What a circus. Finally got out to the main highway where there was very little traffic.

Not long after, we were at the border of Kosovo and Albania.

Arriving at the border station...

Not very busy.

Keeping in mind that when we entered Kosovo a couple of weeks ago they didn't even glance at our passports, we kind of expected the same thing to happen re-entering Albania. The guy in the "exit Kosovo" booth didn't even look at us. So we drove further up to the "enter Albania" booth. There, the guy took our passports and vehicle documents, took a quick look at them, and waved us through.

Back in Albania.

It's about a three hour drive from Prizren to Shkoder. and I figured we would stop along the way to take a break somewhere and have some lunch so I thought we might get there around 2:00pm.

Here are some pics of the drive...

The new bridge being built at Kukes.

It's being built on land and then it will be rolled into place somehow.
No idea how they do such a thing, but that's why engineers make the big bucks!

Looking back at the new bridge.

The water in Kukes reservoir is really low.

It's probably typical for this time of year though.

Scenery along the way.

Did you notice the clear blue sky?
Again! The weather has been great!

Arriving on the outskirts of Shkoder.

Shkoder Castle.

Arrived at the apartment and David came down to greet us. Mirsie was off to the gym with her niece.

The apartment is owned by Mirsie's brother who lives in Scotland and only uses it once or twice a year when he returns to Albania to visit family. It's huge... two big bedrooms and two bathrooms. Very modern.

Our room.

View from the sixth floor.

Looking towards the lake.

Lots of great conversation, and Mirsie made a delicious meal of stuffed peppers and salad. After dinner we watched the old classic action comedy "True Lies" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. Can't believe that was made almost 30 years ago in 1994!

I think the four of us are taking a drive today up into the mountains to find a hike. Mirsie grew up in this area, but hasn't spent much time here in the last 20 years, and this is David's first time here.

It looks like another gorgeous day. Calling for a high of 23C (73F). Perfect.

And in Canada...

  1. It's hard to believe it's the 40th anniversary of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial!

We're having fantastic late fall weather here in Ottawa too. Not so much in western Canada (lol).

    1. Yeah that is hard to believe!

Glad that you are having great fall weather, unfortunately it isn't going to last. Yep, they had definitely had an early start to winter out west! We will soon be experiencing the cool/cold weather ourselves but at least we know that we will be headed to warmer weather again.

    1. Maybe because the seeing the guardrails makes you think of traveling and there is nothing better than travel, at least to some of us, lol! :-)
