Change of plans

Not that we really have plans... just a loose idea to continue driving sort of south west to somewhere warmer!

But now, it seems we are taking a little detour into Switzerland!

Regular readers will remember when we met Katja and Yves in Albania and then traveled through parts of Greece and Turkiye with them last winter.

They have now temporarily settled down in the town of Châtel-Saint-Denis, Switzerland and they saw that we are sort of headed that way, so they invited us to come for a visit.

So we said "okay"!

It's going to be a little chilly up there, but we'll just stay for a night or two. Besides, my dad has a couple of photos from Lake Geneva that we can try to match up in that area.

Yesterday was mostly a rain day, but the temperature wasn't bad at about 13C (55F). And we did manage to get out for a walk.

The drive was kind of dull and grey.

We are surprised at how green some of the fields are.

We like taking the back roads, but it does seem to take a long time to get anywhere!

Lots of little towns and villages to drive through.

We ended up in the town of Liverdun which advertised a nice motorhome parking site by the Moselle River.

The sign says 72 hours parking allowed for motorhomes.

Nice and quiet... hardly anyone around.

Right across the river is this old chateau.

We walked up into the old medieval part of town.

Old castle.
And a bit of blue sky!

We took a trail up to the old section for a view over the Moselle River.

Railway bridge over the river.

Old town gate.

Nice fall colors.

St. Peter's Church.

Built in the 12th century.

The rain moved in again.

Yesterday's drive, 50 kms (30 miles).

And in Canada...

  1. Absolutely beautiful fall color! The cover photo is especially breathtaking. I wonder if some of those super green farm fields are an off-season cover crop? Sometimes those can be vividly green even as everything else is turning brown.

    1. We are lucky that there has still been some gorgeous fall colours but it is definitely coming to an end, we are seeing lots of leaves on the ground and some trees are already bare.

Yes, many of the fields do have crops growing in them but even so, there is still a lot of green around, it must be from all the rain, lol!
