Heading south through the Rhone River Valley in France

We had a good driving day yesterday as we did about 200 kms (124 miles) through the Rhone River Valley. We are purposely staying away from mountainous areas, although the route we are taking is probably the most direct anyhow.

There is snow at higher elevations, though it's still a little early in the season to be concerned about it. However, they do warn of needing tire chains starting November 1st, although we do not have any.

They also have a new snow tire law in certain mountainous areas of France, but the government has announced that nobody will face a fine until the end of 2022 at the earliest.

Snow up in the mountains.

We did one section where they was some fog down by the river.

Otherwise, there was a nice blue sky most of the drive.

Looking back at the fog over the river.

It was very strange.

Scenery along the way.

Max's shadow looks funny.

The orange dot in the field is a hunter. We saw quite a few of them out yesterday.

We made one stop, in the town of Belley to get some fuel. Up until November 14th, the government had a 30% subsidy in place, but that has now been reduced to 10%. We paid €1.88 per liter, but we're not sure if that includes the subsidy, or if we get the discount when it's processed to our card. It is what it is.

Another reason to head to Andorra is to fill up with fuel again. With the low taxes there, diesel is apparently around €1.59 right now.

Driving beside Lac du Paladru.

Old narrow bridge to cross.

The Istere River.

Lots of walnut orchards.

Yep, this looks like a good hiking area!

Beautiful.

There's a small parking area in the village of Beauregard-Baret right at the start of the trailhead. Reviews had said it was a quiet place to spend the night, but there was some kind of event going on in the village and lots of cars were parked in the same place. So there were quite a lot of people coming and going through the night. I think the last one left at about 4:00am!

Today is Ruth's birthday. Happy Birthday Ruth! So we are going to stay here and go for a hike. Maybe if we finish early enough we'll do an hour's drive, but we'll see how it goes. Supposed to be a high of 14C (58F) so that's not a bad temperature for hiking. Its foggy right now, but hopefully it will clear up soon.

Yesterday's drive.
