Well the road is now finished, so yesterday we took Mirsie and David for a drive up into the mountains.
Yet another gorgeous day!
We are headed into those mountains.
Traffic circle monument.
Beautiful valley. But it gets better.
Scenery along the way.
What a beautiful area. But it gets better.
View back where we came from.
We stopped near the same cell tower that we had hiked up to last time we were here. Gorgeous views in all directions. I took a video for you. No need to turn up the volume because all you will hear is the drone from the diesel generator that runs the cell tower...
And for those of you who didn't want to watch the video, here are a few still shots...
Heading up to the cell tower.
Heading back to the car.
So, the road to Theth from the mountain pass is now paved all the way. It used to be that you needed a 4x4 and it would take about an hour to make your way down the treacherous path to the valley below. It is still treacherous because of the speed the cars can now travel on the narrow paved road... but you can do it in about half an hour.
Down in the valley.
The paved road has brought a lot of new construction.
One of the attractions of the valley is the photogenic church.
The church was built in 1892, but recently renovated.
Ruth and David chatting with a local.
Such a beautiful spot.
Sheep!
Another new lodge.
We had planned on doing a hike, but we simply ran out of time. We needed some food, so we sat down to have a late lunch at a restaurant in Theth. But it was actually kind of busy, and so the service was slow. The one waiter seemed a bit overwhelmed. But by the time we got out of there it was 3:00pm and we still had a two hour drive back to the city!
The sun was already getting low in the sky.
Last photo of Theth.
We never did get out for a decent hike, so we are going to make up for that today! And guess what? It's another beautiful day! That stretch appears to be ending though, as they are calling for overcast and rain tomorrow and Saturday.

And in Canada...
Indeed a gorgeous drive! Love the old world charm with sheep. I grew up as a shepard so love seeing love seeing animals in photos.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic drive and we can't wait to go to Theth again and hang out in Max for a few days down there and do some of the amazing hike in the area.
DeleteAlbania always has sheep or goats around, we see them on most of our hikes or our drives. We really are going to miss Albania.
