This time, we were successful!

We had made a rough plan to hike up the mountain opposite Lake Shkodra. I had a clear view of it out our bedroom window while I was sitting on the bed writing yesterday's blog post. I could see the antenna towers at the top.

Ruth and I had made a half hearted effort to get up there when we were here a year ago, but when we got to the first ridge it was really windy and actually a bit chilly so we had turned around without reaching the top. This time, we were successful.

The view out our bedroom window...

If you click the photo to make it full screen, and then click again to zoom in, you will be able to see the antenna towers at the top of Tarabosh Mountain.

The four of us set off just after 11:00am...

It didn't take long to get a bit of a view.

Looking across the river at the castle.

Heading higher.

There is a small farm along the way.
If you zoom in, you can see seven of Albania's communist era bunkers.

Heading higher.

The trail from the apartment is 6.5 kms (4 miles) one way with a 585 meter (1,900') elevation gain. A pretty steady climb, and nowhere that is really steep, so it's just a good workout without being overly strenuous.

Just us and the goats!

Hi Billy!

Near the top. On the right is a military installation.
And on the left in the background are the mountains of Montenegro.

It was a decent blue sky, but a bit hazy.

Almost at the top.

Hazy looking west towards the Adriatic Sea.
You can just see a sliver of it on the horizon at the right.

There was a security guard at the top, and Mirsie got him to take a photo of us...

Kevin, Ruth, Mirsie, and David.

Me, with the big antenna towers.

Ruth at the top.

Looking out at Lake Shkodra.

Selfie on the way back down.

Scenery along the way.

Ruth, saying hello to Billy.

Zoomed in on Rozafa Castle.
Ruth and I had been there in May of last year.

Back at the bottom, we stopped in to get some fruits and veggies...

Nice produce!

We had done 13 kms (8 miles). What a perfect day we had. Pretty tired though. It's been a while since we've done a hike like that. Gotta keep moving!

In the evening, we looked at some maps and did some route planning for David and Mirsie. They are staying here in Albania through Christmas, and then planning to head to Turkiye in their van, so we had a lot of tips to give them.

Slept like a rock last night. Went to bed at 10:00pm and didn't wake up until 6:10am.

Today is our last day in Albania. This afternoon we will drive to Tirana airport where we have a hotel room booked for the night. Our flight to Germany leaves at 6:50am! Tomorrow night we will be sleeping in the motorhome! Yeehaw!

    1. Thank you very much! We are glad that the weather was perfect for our hike up, the views were lovely and we enjoyed both the hike and the company of David and Mirsie.
