But it's time to move on, and we're excited to be heading back to Germany and picking up our motorhome Max for an extended tour.
Writing this from the boarding gates at Tirana airport at 5:30am waiting for our 6:50am flight to Dortmund.
Ready to go!
We're flying with Wizz Air, a popular low cost carrier based out of Hungary. The tickets were €55 ($74 CAD, $55 USD) each, and that included paying extra for the "Priority" package that allows us to bring our carry on bag on board. But it doesn't include sitting together, and we didn't see the need to spend another €7 to choose our seats. So Ruth is in row 9 and I am in row 23!
Yesterday morning Ruth went with Mirsie to get her eyebrows done while David and I went to the Albania car rental office to book him a rental for Christmas time. His parents are flying down to visit them and he wants to show them around.
We walked by the pretty mosque.
Mirsie made us a nice lunch, and then we said goodbye. We're confident we'll see them again, either in Spain or possibly in Scotland in June.
And then we did the hour and a half drive from Shkoder to Tirana Airport. There's not a lot to see along the way, and a lot of traffic, so no pictures.
Arrived at the Hotel Airport Garden, and got ourselves checked in. We had decided that with such an early morning flight we might as well splurge on an airport hotel and at least get a little bit of decent sleep. For €40 ($54 CAD, $40 USD), it was money well spent, and actually quite a nice hotel.
Small and basic, but everything new.
And sparkling clean.
We had just enough Albanian cash left over to treat ourselves to a decent dinner out. It was a bit pricey for what we got, but not unexpected since it's located so close to the airport. But holidays are over now, and we are back to our "normal" lifestyle so there may not be many meals out for a while!
It was literally a five minute walk from the hotel to the terminal this morning. It was raining, which we haven't seen for quite some time. Very lucky with the weather the past three weeks.
Next blog post coming to you from Germany!
