Really enjoying Tenerife

We had no idea what to expect, and of course Tenerife is only one of the eight main islands that make up the Canary Islands. But so far, we would definitely come back!

You hear about British people coming here for package holidays, so we were afraid of it being a little too much like the south coast of Spain and Portugal with "full British breakfast" being available everywhere, but this is not at all the case based on what we've seen so far.

There are a ton of well marked hiking trails and a lot of very scenic vistas. And the reason we came here was because Bob and Denise are on a hiking holiday and we wanted to join them. So yesterday, we took to the trails...

This was taken from a viewpoint on the road driving to the trailhead.

Gorgeous scenery.

At the trailhead parking lot.

Well marked trails.

Only one problem. This was a 13 km circular route that we were doing, but this part of the island had a lot of rain Friday evening. We spoke to one guy who said it was just pouring down. Anyhow, there are several little streams that were running too hard to cross, and we eventually had to turn back.

This little waterfall only exists during rain.

I can see the sea.

Back at the parking lot, we found another shorter trail, so we took that instead.

Notice that it's a beautiful day!

Then we drove up to the Pico de Ingles lookoff, but there were a lot of scenic views just driving up there.

View from Pico de Ingles.

From there, we took another trail that led us back to the main road. But at that point, there was a cafe with a beautiful view and some tables set up. We had brought a packed lunch, so we ordered drinks and sat and had our lunch there.

View from our table.

An ice cold beer went down really well!

The trail had some interesting vegetation.

Then we drove to another part of the island where we did a short coastal hike.

Enjoying the beautiful day and the beautiful views!

We headed up another trail to this cave overhang.

We hadn't been keeping track of our distance, but we figure we must have done 14 kms (8.7 miles) or so in total. And it was a full day... we didn't get back to the hotel until about 5:30pm.

We chose an interesting "fusion" type restaurant for dinner where we shared a few plates of different food.

The warmed vegetables with caramelized cheese.

Salad.

Stuffed mushrooms.

Some kind of egg and french fries dish.

We also had some kind of a chick pea stew that I didn't get a photo of. Plus a few glasses of wine and beer. The bill was €80 ($114 CAD, $85 USD) for the four of us. We all enjoyed it.

Today, we move to a hotel at the southern part of the island where there is more exploring and hiking on the agenda!

    1. So glad that you are liking the look of the Canary Islands. Tenerife is beautiful and Bob and Denise said that the Gran Canaria is even prettier.
