A visit from the park rangers...

We had a totally peaceful night, and woke up to see that all of the crowds of people had disappeared. Surprisingly, very little trash left behind despite the fact that there are no trash bins.

I went for a walk around to see which spot by the river looked easiest to get Max moved to. Such a nice spot, and a few walks we could do in the area so we planned to stay a least one more night, possibly two.

Yep, this will do for another night or two...

Max, parked by the Guadiana River.

There were four of these big storks wandering around.

We left Max alone and went for a stroll down beside the river for a couple of kms.

The river was so calm you would almost think it wasn't moving.

Lots of these little white flowers.

Ruth, looking for turtles sunning themselves by the bank.

No photos, but  we saw turtles, fish, and frogs.

We took the road back which gave us some better views.

Oh, and we saw a snake on the road.
It was just a little one, but he was recently deceased!

Back at Max.

Back at Max, we set our chairs up beside the river and had a coffee and tea. Such a nice day, and hardly anybody around which was a stark contrast to the day before when the place had been packed.

Ussie by the river.

So we're sitting enjoying the day when a little SUV drives up, and two guys in uniform get out. The vehicle had no markings at all, but the guys were obviously park rangers of some kind.

Unfortunately, they said we weren't allowed to stay the night. They said during the day was fine, but there is no overnight camping allowed.

Hmph. That's too bad.

There had been several reviews online of people who had parked the night here, and of course we stayed the night before with no problem. My guess is though, that if you were to be here during the week, odds are good nobody would check. But also, why don't they put up a sign? They had a sign for "no campfires", which a few people didn't pay attention to.

Oh well. We had some lunch and packed up Max and moved on.

Scenery along the way.

We ended up on top of a hill overlooking the town of Piedrabuena.

Sunset view above Piedrabuena.

Max parked at GPS 39.023385, -4.15631

We were joined by two other campervans, but it was an overall quiet night.

  1. It looks like you ended up with a good spot after all. If you're like us, this type of event brings great conversation while driving!

    1. We did end up at another good spot but we would rather have stayed where we were. Thankfully we they told us early in the day and weren't knocking at our door late at night,

Yes, things like that definitely keep a conversation going when you're driving down the road, lol!
