But along the way, we stopped in the town of Torrijos to do some shopping. They had a Lidl and a Mercadona right beside each other with easy parking for a motorhome.
On the road northwest towards the mountains.
Another town along the way.
Notice in the photo above that there is a castle on the right hand side. We love castles, but there are many castles in Spain, and we can't stop to see them all.
As we were approaching the town of Escalona, we couldn't help but notice this impressive castle.
A narrow bridge with traffic in only one direction at a time.
We stopped here just to get a shot of the castle.
You can see Max parked on the lower left.
I got back in the motorhome and checked to see if there was somewhere decent to stop for lunch and maybe a wander around. And there was... a parking area by the municipal pool and sports field.
We stayed for lunch, and Ruth did some research on the town of Escalona. Turns out there is a mural walking route in town. The parking spot would do for a night, so we decided to hang around and walk into town to see the murals.
One of the old town gates.
The first mural we saw.
Lots of old walls.
This town is on one of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage walking routes.
Another mural.
The town was very quiet.
Another big old wall.
Old Town hall.
It says "Welcome to Escalona. Court of Prodigies."
Unfortunately, the castle is not open to the public.
Apparently the castle is privately owned by a single woman who lives in a very small section of it. We've read of situations where you can actually buy a ruined castle for as little as a euro provided you restore it and make it livable. There are probably loopholes where you end up only restoring a very small part of it. Who knows.
Washer women.
Notice the clear blue sky yet again. But it was much cooler, with a high of only 20C (68F).
Today, we are for sure headed into the mountains!

And in Canada...
Those murals are well done - looks like by the same artist.
ReplyDeleteThe murals were excellent and yes, they were all done by the same artist, Mr. Trazo (Mario Rodríguez).
DeleteI love the murals! I always enjoyed seeing them in Mexico as well, and these are exceptional. Really glad you stopped to walk around!
ReplyDeleteThe murals were fantastic, unfortunately we didn't see all of them but we did see most of them. We are really glad that we stopped by this small town and checked it out otherwise we would have missed this.
DeleteYes, we always enjoyed the murals in Mexico too, actually we see lots of murals around on our travels in so many different countries.
