Have a look at our plan for June...

Wow, today is the last day of May. We arrived in Ireland May 8th, so we've already been here for three weeks.

Our original thinking was that two months in Ireland would be enough, but now we're not so sure!

We're lucky that we have quite a lot of flexibility... our only real deadline is that we have to be in Paris, France by the end of August. However we wanted to see some of Scotland too, and given how slowly we seem to travel, we're not so sure that's going to happen now. If that doesn't happen, we will be better off heading directly from Ireland to Wales... which would be just as good, really.

We are doing a house sit starting this Friday. It's only a few miles north of where we are now, so we're just relaxing in the area for the next couple of days. Once the house sit ends, we are going to head back to the Wild Atlantic Way and kind of start up again around where we left off.

So around June 6th, we'll get back on the motorway and head to Killarney National Park. After that, depending on the weather at the time, we might do the hike up to Carrauntoohil... the highest mountain in Ireland. Then north up the west coast. And we'll just play it by ear how far we get until we have to make a decision between Scotland or Wales.

Yesterday, we got into the Dublin tunnel and made our way out of the city. Well worth the €3 toll to use the tunnel. I was wrong the other day when I mentioned the tunnel toll fees. It's actually only €10 if you use it during rush hour heading into the city from 6am to 10am in the morning, or north heading out of the city from 4pm to 7pm in the afternoon. It's definitely the way to go if you want to avoid any traffic.

We found a nice free spot Just north of the city, overlooking the water. Near the town of Malahide.

Max, parked at GPS 53.455535, -6.167164

We were joined by two other vans. Quite of lot of nearby road traffic, but it was quiet overnight.

After lunch, we walked over to Malahide Beach, and then through the park to Malahide Castle.

Malahide Harbour.

A lot of wood carvings everywhere we went yesterday.

There was a cool breeze, but lots of people enjoying the bright sunshine.

The tide was out.

Pretty flowers on the grounds of Malahide Castle.

The grounds and the park were free, but the castle costs for tour entry. It's done privately, so unfortunately not included in our English Heritage card.

More wood carvings.

Ruins of the Abbey.

And yet another carving.

Malahide Castle, built in stages between 1200 and 1600.

I would have liked to have seen the interior, but it didn't seem like good value at €14 ($20.50 CAD, $15 USD) for the 45 minute tour. We will be seeing many other castles included with our English Heritage card.

Quite a few more clouds in the sky today so far. We're going to head a little further up the east coast... but not very far!

Our approximate route since we arrived in Rosslare May 8th.

Nice price drop on the Royal Gourmet Tabletop Griddle.

And in Canada...
