It sounds kind of morbid, but we wanted to see the bog mummies.

Yet another nice day here in Ireland. A little cooler, but still with mostly sunny skies. High of 17C (63F).

First off, we had to do a little grocery shopping. We walked about 1 km over to a Tesco grocery store, and picked up what we needed. As we left the store, Ruth reminded me to check the receipt to make sure everything was the way it should be.

It was not.

We had bought another one of those "pick any 3 items for €10" deals in the meat department. So we picked up a whole chicken, some diced beef, and some pork chops. Good deal. Except the receipt showed them as being bought separately, so we were charged almost €13 instead of €10.

So we went back inside to the customer service. It turned out that they had placed the wrong pork chops at the sign, and those higher priced pork chops weren't supposed to be included in the deal. We got to keep the higher priced pork chops, and they refunded us €2.74. Thanks Tesco!

We had an early lunch, and then headed back into downtown Dublin to see what we had missed the day before.

Funny clock on the side of this pub.

The National Library of Ireland.

We wanted to do a quick stop into the National Museum of Ireland's Archeology building. The building itself was supposed to be quite interesting, and there were a couple of displays in particular that we wanted to see. Yes, we would skip right by all the broken pottery!

Fortunately, the National Museums in Ireland are free to everybody, although this also makes them quite busy.

I managed to get a shot of the entrance floor with no people.
It really was busy!

The building itself.

It sounds kind of morbid, but we wanted to see the bog mummies.

They date back to about 300BC and the condition in which they were found gave historians and archeologists a lot of information about how people lived back then. Including how they were killed. The bodies were so well preserved that they could analyze what they had for their last meal. Amazing stuff.

The other thing we wanted to see was the bog butter.

Bog butter, and the wooden container it was found in.

You can read more about bog butter here... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bog_butter

They also had a pretty good display about Ireland's Viking history.

Viking swords and axes dating back to the 9th century.

From there, we walked over to the busy Temple Bar area.

The Hairy Lemon Pub!

The original Temple Bar Pub.

The Quay's Bar Pub.

Pedestrian bridge.

They drink a lot of beer here!

This is a hotel.

The old market building.

And our last stop was at a new Lidl grocery store. But not because we needed any groceries!

Yep, this is the place.

This Lidl opened in October 2020, and when they were doing the construction they came across a lot of artifacts, as well as the foundation of an 11th century house and an 18th century "pit trap" from a theater.

They designed the floor in order to show off what they had found...

Neat stuff!

Covered in vines!

Then we walked back to Max.

We enjoyed two days exploring Dublin and didn't spend any money! Other than the original purchase price of our English Heritage cards which of course we will get a lot more use out of yet.

We arrived back at Max to find two other motorhomes there. One, we were expecting. We had been in contact with fellow motorhome travelers Jason and Julie from Our Tour and we kind of figured out paths would cross at some point as they were also exploring part of Ireland.

They take the ferry back to England this morning, so we didn't have much time together, but we shared a couple of hours of stories. We've been following each others blogs for a long time now, so it was great to finally get together.

Kevin, Jason, Julie, and Ruth.

So, while they have headed to the ferry this morning, we are also moving on. Not very far, but certainly out of the city. Our house sit begins on Friday, so we've got a couple of days where we can just putter around the area and relax a bit north of the city.

And, it looks like another beautiful day, and in fact the forecast for this week is more of the same!

Nice price drop on a Two Slice Toaster.

And in Canada...
