Friday evening out at the pub

It kind of drizzled on and off all day, and we didn't leave the motorhome until about 8:00pm in the evening!

But, we were due for a relaxing day of doing nothing... and there's nothing wrong with that every now and again. I got caught up on some internet stuff, and got our ferry to Wales booked.

The cheapest ferry I could find was on the Stena line from Dublin, Ireland to Holyhead, Wales on July 12th for €211 ($305 CAD, $231 USD) for Max and two adults for the two and a half hour boat ride.

Ireland to Wales route on July 12th.

It leaves Ireland at 8:30pm and arrives Wales at midnight local time. Daytime sailings are more expensive, and we just wanted the cheapest price. There was actually another one the leaves at like 1am and arrives at like 4am, but it was only €4 cheaper so not worth the savings at that point.

But, that means we only have just over two and a half weeks until we leave Ireland!

And, daughter Lindsey and I did a bunch more research about trying to get grandson Cameron over here at some point in August. Lots of logistical situations to work out since one way airfare prices have skyrocketed, and it's difficult for a 12 year old to have to deal with international connections. But he's a smart kid, and what better way to learn than be set off on some international travel by yourself at that age! We'll see. Nothing has been booked yet.

There's a nice little local country pub 2 kms (1.3 miles) down the road from where we are right now. We figured it was a Friday evening, so we would walk over there and treat ourselves to an evening out at the pub.

Arrived at the pub!

Ruth ordered a cider and ended up with this big, full pint, 568 ml bottle!

A few people n the pub.

We got to talking to a few of the locals, as well as with Vinnie and his family. Vinnie is the son of Nora, the lady who reads this blog and owns the house where we're staying!

Jack, Ruth, Sharon, Vinnie, Kevin, Ben.

Those lads are tall! Jack (beside Ruth) is only 14 years old. I'm six feet and older brother Ben towers over me.

Lots of fun, and the local prices were reasonable.

We're hitting the road again this morning! Heading towards the town of Clifden and then Connemara National Park.

And in Canada...

  1. That looks like a fun evening! My, those boys are tall. Is that typical of Irishmen?

    1. I was a fun evening, we were looking for an experience like that rather than one of those fancy looking old pubs in the towns or cities where they are full of tourists rather than locals.

Those boys were very tall and no, that certainly isn't the height of the majority of Irishmen!
