Partly our fault though because we didn't get on the road until around 11:00am.
We stopped for lunch at a roadside pulloff and I got to looking at overnight possibilities along the way. It was Saturday and it seemed like there were quite a few cars on the road, so I figured Clifden might be too busy to find a parking spot.
Scenery along the way.
Once again, they were calling for rain on and off, but even though it looked like it was going to, it never really did. You can see how cloudy it was though, especially getting closer to the mountains in the national park.
There was a spot listed at a graveyard only a couple of kms form where we had stopped for lunch. So we headed up there to check it out.
We drove through this cycle path that obviously used to be a railway.
It was marked for vehicle use as well as bicycles though.
Yep, this will do!
You can see the tire marks where the kids come up and spin around. Being a Saturday night, we were aware that maybe this was a hangout for the young people, but the couple of reviews on park4night didn't mention any problems. (It turned out we had no problems).
View out our side door.
Sheep wandering through the parking lot!
There was a marked cycling/walking path that went for another 2 kms or so, so we went for a stroll.
Such a pretty area!
Sheep on the path.
And then just like that, the path stopped. Strange.
Ruth is like "huh?"
The sun came out for a minute.
We were joined by one other van in the evening.
Nice and quiet overnight... except for the rain!
Man, did it ever pour down for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. Normally we don't mind the pitter patter of a light rain on the roof, but it was coming down so hard I remember thinking "it's a good thing Max is watertight!" No thunder or lightning... just a really heavy rain.
But that seems to be over now and we've woken up to some blue sky. Good thing, because we've got a busy day planned!
