Last day in Ireland

What a great trip this has been. We've been in Ireland since May 8, so just over two months.

We've pretty much circled the entire island, been to an Irish wedding, climbed Ireland's highest mountain, and learned a lot about the history of culture and conflict here. And I enjoyed a few pints of Guinness!

We don't quite feel like we're ready to leave though.

Yesterday, we drove back down into the Republic of Ireland

Rain one minute, and sun the next.

That hill looks like it wants to be climbed!

Scenery along the way.

The town of Warrenpoint.

Irish Elk statue.
The Irish Elk was similar to a moose, but are now extinct.

On the motorway, headed south towards Dublin.

The only indication of crossing the border from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland is the sign warning that it changes from miles per hour to kilometers per hour.

We made a stop at the Newgrange Stone Age Monument.

Newgrange tomb is said to be 5,200 years old... older than Stonehenge and older than the pyramids of Egypt. Unfortunately, it's the busiest time of year to go on the tour and they have to be booked in advance. So we just wandered around a bit.

One of the smaller tombs.

The large tomb.

Another small tomb.

The people we had housesat for in early June had invited us to stop in and park in their driveway if we were passing by, and that's exactly what we were doing. So we headed there to say hello to Juno the dog.

Juno the dog saying hello!

They also said we could have a shower and do some laundry, so we're hanging around this morning to get that done. Nice when people understand the needs of us motorhomers!

Then this afternoon we'll drive to the Dublin docks to line up for our evening ferry to Wales.

All the places we visited in Ireland!
The blue arrow is where we are right now.

Next blog post coming to you from Wales!

  1. Wow, looks like you got to visit an awful lot of places, even in less time than you would have liked. Such a beautiful country! I smiled to see Ruth visiting with Juno the dog again. Looks like Juno remembered her! Safe travels to Wales!

    1. We did see a lot of places but we did travel slowly and took in a lot yet there was still so much more to see. We can't imagine just coming for a week or two and traveling the whole island but that is what most people do, I am glad that we are most people.

Juno is such a sweet dog and yes, we think she remembered us. We was so happy to see us.

Thanks you, we arrived safe and sound last night. :-)
