Welcome to Wales!

Wales is not a new country for us. Back in 2012 we did a three week house sit near Hereford, England and we did several day trips into Wales. But this time, we'll get to spend a little more time exploring!

So, yesterday we took the Stena Line ferry "Adventurer" from Dublin to Holyhead, Wales.

It's a three and a half hour journey that cost €211 ($305 CAD, $235 USD) for Max and two adults.

Dublin to Holyhead.

We arrived at the Dublin Port early so that we wouldn't have to deal with rush hour traffic in Dublin, although it likely wouldn't have been an issue for us anyhow since we would have been entering Dublin as traffic was leaving.

Max was first in line!

But, we didn't mind being early. We had some computer work to do, and we had our house with us. Motorhome travel is definitely our preferred way to travel!

Ruth made a delicious chicken stir fry for dinner.

At 7:30pm we were boarding for our 8:30pm departure. Ruth took a video for you...

The Adventurer is a twenty year old ferry, but the passenger areas have been modernized. I only took one interior photo though!

There are three different movie theaters, and there is no extra charge!

But movies begin ten minutes after departure and we were still exploring the ship and watching the departure from outside.

Dublin is a busy shipping port.

Lots of activity going on.

More ferries.

Lots of truck traffic.

Leaving Ireland behind.

Ruth, enjoying the views.

Sunset from on board.

There was this odd rainbow in the distance.

They made the announcement that the duty free shop was open for a limited time. We almost didn't go up, because we've learned that duty free shops nowadays aren't the great deal they used to be twenty years ago. However, we decided to go have a look just for something to do.

The wine was no great deal. There were a couple of deals on hard liquor, but not enough to entice us to carry the stuff around with us. We don't drink much of the hard stuff anyhow. However... there was one great deal on a case of 24 San Miguel 440ml cans for £15 ($25.75 CAD, $19.50 USD). It's a Spanish beer that I quite like, and for the larger size cans, this is a decent deal... even worth having to lug the box around with me until we could get back down to Max!

We played a couple of games of cribbage, and I had a nap while Ruth did some reading. Before we knew it, they were calling people down to their vehicles.

Of course it was dark when we arrived just after midnight. We went to exit, and it was raining. I don't like driving in the dark to begin with, but it's even worse when it's raining at the same time.

Exiting the boat. Yuck.

Fortunately, we didn't have far to go. There were four or five listings of possible parking spots for motorhomes within a mile of the port. I pulled into the first possibility and got ourselves set up. We so rarely arrive somewhere after dark because it makes no sense to me. So this was a rare time where I had to get us set up and level without getting a good idea of our surroundings.

When I opened the blind this morning, this was our view.

Not bad. A few cars coming by, but it worked.

Today, we will do some grocery shopping and exploring here in Holyhead, and then drive about forty minutes to a static caravan (holiday trailer) where we will meet Ruth's cousin Helen and her husband Tony later on this evening for a long weekend with them.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the video! You are never quite sure what you are going to see as you drive on board.

Yeah, our overnight spot ended up not being too bad. We weren't quite sure what the view was going to look like until we opened the blinds in the morning. :-)
