On the way back, the skies really opened up.

Not a very exciting day yesterday, other than when the skies opened up on us!

We did the drive north to Dortmund area. Lots of construction zones where lanes were closed and they were rebuilding bridges. Because it was a Sunday there was hardly any truck traffic, so it didn't really slow us down too much.

But it did rain on and off as well...

Boring highway driving.

We are headed for the town of Dulmen, but we know that there is no laundromat in Dulmen. So we stopped a half hour before in the town of Herten where there is one. But it's not open on Sunday! How illogical is that? It is open from 6am to 11pm Monday through Saturday though.

So we found a decent overnight parking spot at a nearby sports field and planned on doing the laundry first thing this morning.

The sports field was near a series of multi use bike and walking paths, so we got parked up and went for a power walk. They said there was 0% chance of rain until 5pm, so we didn't take the umbrellas.

Zero normally means no chance, right?

The bike paths here are wider and in better condition than most secondary roads in England!

We got about 4 kms into our walk when the skies started to look threatening. Some big drops started coming down and we managed to find some bushes to kind of protect us, but it quickly passed.

Got a few big drops on us!

We walked up to this viewing platform.

Not really much to see though.

Not sure what this is.

On the way back, the skies really opened up.

Hiding in some more trees.
You can't really tell, but it's pouring rain.

This gives you a better idea.

It rained so hard and for so long that the water started dripping through the canopy of leaves above us. We made our way under a nearby bridge where there were several other people waiting out the unexpected rain. We were pretty much soaked by then!

Nice art in the underpass.

We ended up doing just over 8 kms (5 miles), and it felt good to get some exercise. We've been kind of slacking off in that department while Cameron was with us.

A nice sunset rainbow.

So, up early this morning and off to do laundry. Then to the dealer which is only about a half an hour away.
