Seems everybody in this area does their grocery shopping on Sunday afternoon!

We've learned that you don't get anywhere fast in this part of England. There are no motorways, not that we would normally use them anyhow, but even the main roads in this area are narrow and curvy, and at this time of year there is a lot of traffic.

We've taken to getting up and doing our driving very early, as soon as we wake up, because it's just easier with less vehicles on the road.

When I was 15 years old in August of 1977, I did a cycling tour of this area with my older sister. The roads haven't changed much, but the amount of traffic sure has! I would be afraid to ride a bicycle on many of them.

We drove for an hour and a half or so and found a nice countryside parking space near the town of Bude, and sat there to have a late breakfast. We ended up staying through lunch and didn't leave until about 2:00pm into the town of Bude. The only reason we went in was to go to a Lidl grocery store and do some stocking up. Was it ever busy! Seems everybody in this area does their grocery shopping on Sunday afternoon!

The parking was right beside the laneway, but I don't think we saw another vehicle after 8:00pm. I remember waking up at some point during the night and thinking how quiet it was.

Yesterday's drive 64 miles (103 kms).

This morning we are driving to the nearby town of Tintagel where there is a seaside castle we want to visit. It looks like it might actually be a nice day! Only a high of 17C (63F), but with some sunshine. We'll take it!
