A little bit of Bishkek

We've only got three days here in Bishkek. And while we're not here for the city itself, we figured we had better use one of those days to see some of it.

Our hostel is located about 8 kms (5 miles) south of the city center. We purposely chose this location so that we could be closer to the mountains, which are also south of the city.

And we needed some exercise, so we decided to walk from here to the center, and then maybe take a taxi back depending on how we felt.

Oh, I wanted to show you some of the kitchen and common room area at this hostel...

Ruth, using the WiFi.

It's nicely set up, and everything new.

It had been raining in the morning, so it was almost noon by the time it cleared up enough to head out.

Old Soviet style architecture.

Statue of Mikhail Frunze.

With a pigeon on his head!

Bishkek's Central Park.

Some kind of dignitary was doing something.

He wore a traditional Kygyz hat.

We found a Vietnamese Pho place downtown, but it took us over half an hour to find it... and that's after we were already in the building! Turns out it was on the fifth floor, which was not mentioned anywhere. Too funny.

Then we got up there and ordered, but my stomach was acting up and I wasn't feeling 100%, so I ended up getting mine to go, and we took a taxi back home. Must have been a short term bug, because I was definitely hungry by dinner and had it then. Seem fine this morning.

View from the Pho restaurant in Bishkek.
Lots of traffic!

Looks like a beautiful day, so we're off to do some hiking in the nearby hills.
