And, we're off to Bangkok!

Our original plan was to go up to the big Shymbulak Ski Resort yesterday. Not to go skiing, although we would have liked to but it's still too early in the season. We just figured we'd go up and do some more hiking, and just enjoy the views. Apparently the lifts are open, even though there is no skiing yet.

But we were both feeling a little bit stiff and tired!

Maybe it was due to using different muscles trying not to slip on the icy road the day before. Or maybe it's just that we've done a ton of walking over the past week and it finally caught up to us. I don't usually pay any attention to the step counter on the phone, but it's been over 20,000 several days in a row, with one day hitting 26,000.

So we decided to stay in until lunch time, then headed to a cafeteria style place across the road.

It's a busy place!

All of this for 4,800 tenge ($10.50 USD, $14.25 CAD).
We were stuffed.

Then we walked up to the Almaty Botanical Garden. Cost was 850 tenge ($1.85 USD, $2.50 CAD) each, but it was such a beautiful day and we figured we'd just go in and wander around. But it turns out the place is more of an arboretum and it's quite large... and we really didn't want to walk that much. As it was, by the time we got back home we'd done another 6 kms (3.6 miles)!

The temperature made it up to 17C (63F).

Lots of fish in the pond.

It's a really pretty spot.

Nice reflection.

Heading back along the canal.
The canal likely only has water in it during spring runoff from the mountains.

We've had great weather here for the week, but today it's back to more normal temps for this time for year. Only a high of 7C (45F) in the forecast, and overcast, with showers this afternoon. Today is our last day here, although our flight doesn't leave until after midnight tonight.

We have to vacate the apartment before noon, then we're going to walk back over to the Shakespeare pub and have another nice curry lunch. The owner has agreed to store our bags while we go and check out the big market that we tried to get to on Monday when it was closed. Then we'll eventually make our way to the airport and waste the evening away there.

So, no idea when you'll hear from us again! We'll probably have time to post an update from New Delhi airport where we catch out connecting flight to Bangkok.

Our flight route tonight and tomorrow.

    1. The meal prices in general have been really good other than when we had that burger and fries the other day. The botanical garden was a pretty spot and that was about the clearest that we saw the mountains from the city itself during our whole week there, the smog is pretty bad in the city.

  2. Wow, that's a lot of steps. We only did that one day in Spain. Great workout! The food looks good and the price is right!

    1. Yep, that was definitely a good hike and four kilometers of that was uphill. the food wasn't too bad, especially considering the price.
