Back to Chiang Mai

We needed to get back to Chiang Mai, and had originally thought our host would be driving us back to the main highway, and we would take the local transportation back to the city.

But the young couple, Jorrit and Mei, we had said hello to the day before had a car, and so we asked if they were heading back that morning hoping we could hop in with them. It turned out that they were, but they were making a side trip to a waterfall. "But you are welcome to join us", they said!

So that worked out really well. We ended up at the Bua Tong Sticky Waterfall. So called "sticky" because your feet have a lot of grip as you are climbing up the waterfall!

It's a popular spot for both locals and tourists.

The waterfalls leave behind a nice solid trail of mineral deposits.

Oh, well that's good!

A pink dragonfly!

So that was a fun diversion! Jorrit and Mei were heading back to a restaurant in Chiang Mai, so we said that they could just drop us there and we would make our own way to the hotel. We checked google maps and the restaurant they wanted to go to was right across the street from out hotel! How convenient was that??

It was just a typical cheap airport hotel. The only reason I booked it was that it was less than 2 kms from the terminal, so we could easily walk it in the morning for our 9:10am flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Nothing special. It'll do for the night.
845 baht ($24.65 USD, $32.65 CAD).

We got ourselves checked in and then walked over for a 4:00pm meetup with some other senior nomads. We had already met Susan and Blair from Calgary a week or so ago, but this time Jeanne and Phil from Bowling Green, Ohio also joined us.

Funny coincidence, Jeanne and Phil had originally thought about buying our European motorhome Max, but they are also friends with Carolyn and Larry who are the couple who actually did buy Max. Small world sometimes!

Six homeless people!
Kevin, Phil, Susan, Ruth, Jeanne, and Blair.

Next blog post coming to you from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

  1. Good morning. That hike looked dangerous

    1. Actually it really wasn't that dangerous at all. The falls weren"t slippery and in the more difficult spots they had ropes that you could hold on to so that you could pull yourself up. It was actually a lot of fun.

  2. Quite a crowd at that waterfall. Looked like fun, though! My husband graduated from Bowling Green State University, neat that you met a couple from there! Hope you have an uneventful flight!

    1. There were quite a few people there but not as many as there could have been knowing that it was free entry. There was another hike to a waterfall as well but unfortunately it was closed and they were in the process of building another trail but it wasn't finished yet. It was a lot of fun climbing up the waterfall and the water was a nice refreshing temperature too.

Wow, that is neat that you husband went to that university. It was nice to meet people who are friends with the couple that bought Max, it is a small world at times!
