The guesthouse itself has been great. But our first impressions of Chiang Mai have stuck with us. It's not for us. Far too busy, too big, too touristy, too much traffic, not easily walkable... we're just not seeing the attraction.
So we're headed about 50 kms north of here to a small village and a countryside guesthouse. Probably what we should have done to begin with, but people rave about Chiang Mai, so we figured we had better check it out. As we've said many times, it's good that we all like different things!
But like I said, the guesthouse here has been fine. Especially the great breakfasts every day.
This was the view from our breakfast table yesterday.
Oh, one other plus about our time here in Chiang Mai has been the weather. Highs of around 28C (82F) feel pretty comfortable when we're comparing it to the 35C (95F) temps we had when we were in Bangkok and area!
Yesterday, we took a stroll in the eastern part of the city near the Ping River.
Just another temple along the way.
Ruth at the Ping River looking north.
And looking south. Big modern condo building.
Chinese temple.
I found an interesting looking restaurant for lunch, but when we got there it was closed. Across the street was yet another little hole in the wall lunch spot, so we went there instead. The woman was not overly friendly, but the food was still pretty good!
Cooking our lunch.
Some kind of pork and noodle stir fry.
50 baht ($1.45 USD, $1.90 CAD) each.
So... this morning, we're taking the local minibus about 40 kms (25 miles) north, and then our host is picking us up from the intersection with the main highway. And another 10 kms (6 miles) from there. We are out in the countryside for 3 nights, then back into the city with one night near the airport, then fly to Kuala Lumpur on the 30th.

Can't beat that price for lunch, and it looked good! Glad you're heading to a place more suitable for you. Hope the weather will continue to be moderate in temperature!
ReplyDeleteIt was a tasty lunch and yeah, it is hard to beat that price!
DeleteWe can tell you that we already love this place so much more than the city, we really should have booked more time here and less in Chiang Mai.
