Another one of those big lizards!

We slept in a bit after our late night on New Year's Eve, and just coasted through the morning. Not the most logical choice though, since the morning tends to be a couple of degrees cooler than the afternoon and we had some exploring to do!

Kuala Lumpur has a fair bit of park space, and one in particular showed a lot of different trails.

First though, we made a stop at KL Tower, but only because it was along the way. We had no intention of spending the money for the view.

We made our way to the old Indian part of town.

Actually pretty interesting. Almost like we were suddenly in a different country... India! Very few westerners, and mostly dark skinned Indian people. This is where we figured out we could get a cheap meal. Of course it was curry... good thing we love curry!

I had chicken curry, and Ruth had mutton. 

Really good, and only RM15 ($3.25 USD, $4.30 CAD) each.

Right across the street, I had noticed a barber shop, and I was in desperate need of a hair cut. When we finished lunch, we walked over there and the place was empty. Asked how much (I have learned to do this in advance, after my last haircut experience) and the guy says RM15 ($3.25 USD, $4.30 CAD).

Felt like a new man!

The tallest skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur is the futuristic looking Merdeka 118 building.

It is the second tallest skyscraper in the world. With 118 floors, it only just officially opened last year after a nine year construction timeline. The top 17 floors will belong to the luxury Park Hyatt Hotel when it opens in Q3 of 2024.

We made it to Tugu Park, dripping with sweat. Bought a couple of popsicles and another cold bottle of water.

So we're walking up the road towards a viewpoint, and hoping to get on some trails from there. We come across this big lizard just sitting in the grass beside the road. He didn't seem afraid of us at all...

We get to the entrance to the trails, and there was a guard who explained we could do 5 kms (3 miles) if we used the trail to the left, or 1 km if we took the trail to the right. 1 km seemed to short, so off we went on the long trail.

Well, good thing we had lots of water!

Not long after we set off, we heard a rustling in the bush. It was another one of those big lizards! I took a video for you... turn up your volume...

He was only about three feet away from me when I chickened out!

Very strange. You're walking through the jungle and all of a sudden there is a swing set!

Only problem was the trails were a maze! We couldn't seem to find the exit! And I had a map on my phone, but every time we made it to what showed to be an exit, it was either closed off, or blocked, or a locked gate with a fence. Eventually, I found a trail that I believed would lead to an exit, but it required a few meters of walking through the undergrowth which didn't appeal to Ruth since she only had sandals on.

Only to find... another locked gate! But on the other side was the road, and there was another guy who looked like a tourist. We spoke to him, and decided to hop the fence. I had to hoist Ruth up, and she managed her way over to the other side. Too funny, the things we get ourselves into at this age!

On the other side, we spoke to John. Originally from Seattle, but he's lived the last 12 years in Cambodia. He's here on vacation with his family. We were going to walk back to the condo, but John had already ordered a grab taxi and offered us a ride with him. Turns out his destination was only half a km from ours. He gave us some tips and we exchanged whatsapp numbers in case we make it to his area in Cambodia.

What a day... the phone shows we did 20,000 sweaty steps. Sure felt good to take a shower!
