Oh, but first... some laundry! Our host here at the budget hotel pointed us towards a budget place to do laundry. And we found a nice breakfast spot a short walk from the laundromat.
Laundry wash and dry cost only RM9 ($1.95 USD, $2.60 CAD).
On the way to the laundry, I put some gas in the rental car. They gave it to us with about 1/4 tank, and said to bring it back with about the same. I never checked the price of fuel ahead of time, so I figured I would put RM50 ($10.75 USD, $14.40 CAD) in and see how far it gets us. Well I'm watching the liters go in, and we ended up with a full tank for that price! It turns out that fuel is only RM2 per liter which is about $0.58 CAD (about $1.60 USD per gallon). As I've mentioned, Langkawi Island is totally duty free, so that applies to gasoline as well.
Chenang Beach in Langkawi.
Breakfast,
RM16.4 ($3.50 USD, $4.75 CAD) each.
We walked along the beach for a while. But it was hot, and with not much shade unless we spent money to rent loungers and an umbrella. We decided this wasn't a beach we wanted to go swimming at... the one we had been at the day before is better for that. We decided to sit and have a tourist drink at a beachside restaurant. A bit pricey, but at least we could sit in the shade.
Nice cold non alcoholic mango mojito.
With a not very appetizing bowl of nacho chips the total cost was RM37.4 ($8.05 USD, $10.80 CAD).
Me, and the Chenang Beach sign.
Back at the hotel for an afternoon snooze, then we walked down to the night market which runs from 5pm to 8pm. Lots of choice of different street foods. On the way there, we walked by a fancy hotel that has 13 floors, so we went to the lobby and asked if they had a view at the top. "Sure", they said... "there is a cafe and swimming pool up there".
So we went to the top for a view...
Glad we didn't pay the money to go to the top of that tower!
Rooftop cafe.
Looking down on the streetfood market.
We bought some noodles.
And this fruit concoction called buko.
Yum!
We got everything for takeaway and had dinner back at the hotel.
Two types of noodles, two pieces of chicken, a piece of flan, and the buko fruit concoction for a total of RM31 ($6.70 USD, $8.95 CAD).
Langkawi Island can definitely be a cheap place. Including our hotel room, car rental, all meals, and alcohol, we are spending an average of about RM210 ($45 USD, $60 CAD) per day! Of course you can easily spend a lot more than that... but if you want to be frugal, it's a cheap place to get some sun and beach time.

Nice deal on Walex Porta Pak RV Holding Tank Drop Ins.
And in Canada...
Looks like a fantastic place to vacation, That food is making me hungry. Especially as we relax here in Alberta with a gorgeous minus 40 C.
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice place to sit back and relax not that we are doing much of that but we are taking it easier than normal.
DeleteYikes, I don't know how you are surviving with those temperatures, this would be one of the main reasons that we aren't living in Canada anymore. Temperatures like that aren't fit for human habitation, lol!
Love the look of that buko! Mmmm, dragonfruit. Great prices on your food there. Looks like a very pretty place.
ReplyDeleteThat was the first time that we had had buko and we quite liked it. Lots of different kinds of fruits and jellies with sweetened milk poured over it all. It was really tasty.
DeleteLangkawi is very pretty indeed as long as you can stay away from the touristy areas. It is a UNESCO site because of it's geology. They have rock here that they say is 550 million years old.
