Cambodia's highest waterfall

The guesthouse where we are staying has scooters for rent. So we paid the $10 USD ($13.40 CAD) daily rental fee and hopped on a scooter for the 35 km (22 mile) ride to Cambodia's highest waterfall.

And our host Manel gave us a list of things to see along the way.

I haven't driven a motorized 2 wheel vehicle since I had a Benelli 50cc minibike when I was about 14 years old!

Taking a practice spin by myself just to get used to it.

There's no way I'd want to ride one of these things in a busy city, but out here in the Cambodian countryside there really isn't a lot of traffic.

Okay, I think we're ready to go!

First stop was a tea plantation.

It's a kind of an odd place.

But it's got some pretty gardens.

Doorway to nowhere.

Cambodia countryside.

Kind of an odd statue setup.

Next stop was a river that's a popular swimming stop for kids on the weekend.

We stopped to get a photo of these.
At first we thought they were growing hops, but they are black peppercorns.

Ruth did not drive... she was just minding the scooter while I was taking a photo.

Arrived at the waterfall.
Notice the 20,000 riel ($5 USD) fine for littering!

The upper falls.

The walking path down to the lower falls is quite commercialized.

View of the upper falls.

Ruth standing at the top of the lower falls.

Selfie at the upper falls.

Quite a few people enjoying the day.

Another view of the lower falls.

The lower falls are actually more impressive than the upper ones, but there's no way to get to the bottom to get a better photo.

They have a small ethnic village display set up.

Examples of old style accommodation.

On the way back, we rode through this dusty old town.

Everything was covered in this red dust.

We stopped at "The Sea Forest" viewpoint.

They have a bunch of odd viewpoints set up.

It was a beautiful day!

Ruth and the view.

Hmm. Okay.

Funny viewpoints set up.

Back at the guesthouse just before 4:00pm. With sore butts! Maybe it takes some getting used to, but the scooter wasn't that comfortable. We much prefer a car!

We are up early today because we are headed to an elephant sanctuary for the day, then overnight in hammocks, then an 18 km trek tomorrow to see 3 different waterfalls. No idea when you'll hear from us again, but if there is a cell signal I'll try and post some photos to our facebook page at https://web.facebook.com/TravelwithKevinAndRuth
