Day at the beach

We have checked out all the beach possibilities during our touring of the island, and decided to go back to Tanjung Rhu Beach to relax and go for a swim.

It was relatively busy when we had been there on Friday, so we arrived early to make sure we got a decent spot in the shade.

And there was hardly anybody there! However, in parts of Malaysia, Friday and Saturday are the weekend, with Sunday being a normal work day. So Friday would be busier at the beach than Monday.

Eventually, it got hot enough for me to attempt the water. Anybody who knows me, knows that I have zero ambition to get in any water that is at all the least bit cold. And Ruth had said that it was a little colder than she thought it would be.

And it was nice.

Time to get out though.

We were there for almost three hours and stayed in the shade for 90% of that time. But we both still managed to get a little pink! That's enough beach time for us.

We had stopped at a little roadside food stand that got good reviews. But it's all Malay food and it's difficult to tell exactly what you might be getting. Ruth had some kind of beef stir fry, but I'm trying to avoid red meat. So I ordered a chicken dish, but it turned out to be breaded and deep fried. It is not always easy to maintain the diet you want to when you travel full time. I seem to be eating a lot of chicken and rice, in various forms!

Just booked our boat tour, but it's not until Wednesday. So we need to find something to do today. There's a viewpoint we can drive up to, and a waterfall. We leave on Friday, so we'll do the boat tour tomorrow, and the big hike Thursday morning.
