Island touring... and monkeys!

With a car rental and eight days, you can definitely see the whole island of Langkawi! We did a couple more drives yesterday and made it to the highest point that you can drive to, then to a waterfall, then to see some monkeys.

It was a little windy yesterday morning, and when we made it to the top of Gunung Raya at 800 meters (2,650') it was also quite cloudy.

View from Gunug Raya.

There is an old resort hotel at the top, but it's all closed up.

Then we drove over to the Temurun Waterfall. The only problem with that idea is that there is hardly any water at this time of year. Still, there is enough flowing to keep the pool open, and there were a few people in for a swim.

A little bit of water.

We hiked up to the upper pool.

We could imagine that it would be impressive during rainy season.

We drove to the end of the road where we thought there was another trail, but it was gated off by a private resort that owns the property. Bit of a waste of time, but then as we turned around, Ruth spotted a group of dusky leaf monkeys that were really close to the road and we managed to get some good photos...

The babies are typically orange and change color as they mature.

This morning, we are off to do our 4 hour mangrove boat tour!

    1. They really were so cute. We saw another pair together as well but they wouldn't come out of hiding. We were so happy to have seen them, they really made our day.
